I think possibly she's changed the privacy settings because either she or the Brennans were unhappy about the attention. I know a lot of people really ramped up the privacy settings following the Cambridge Analytica scandal, mostly because they hadn't realised quite how much they were sharing. I have friends that work for the UK Defense, they are advised not to do FB at all, and it's scary what people can deduce form something we would think totally innocous. This is very strange to me. I still can access her page and see the photos. I'm not a friend, I only follow her. I don't know why some people can not see her profile, her publications are public. I can access thunder's profile too.

I would be careful in about using stuff from and bringing attention personal FB accounts. There was already a guy being a little creepy about one of the photos of Sinead in the Enya Fans FB group. He did stop when someone took him to task. However it did make me consider whether I should have posted the photo, even though it was from the press. You don't want creeps start PM, or worse, the Brennan's friends and family from information you've let slip. I don't think any one of us truly appreciate the horrific levels of the sickness out there. I don't think that anyone here should be posting photographs of Enya taken from a friend's personal FB page especially if that photo has a child in it. I don't think it is appropriate that those photographs should be available, and they seem to be everywhere now. Enya was never in any of the FB photos of the family up until now and it was I'm sure for this reason. I guess she will revert to this in the future.

I think you make good points, Richard and Draíocht. My first reaction upon seeing pictures of Eithne surrounded by family and interacting warmly with her nieces was one of warmth and affection. However, I (and most of the members of this forum, I would venture to guess) have never been the target of stalkers or other ill-intentioned individuals who have threatened my life. I can see that sharing personal or family pictures and videos of well-known public figures, even when done with the friendliest intentions, could provide details to troubled individuals that increase the risk to both the public figure and their loved ones.

The standard we used on Unity was that if a photo was taken and released through the press for publicity purposes, it was OK to be shared. I saw the photos in question and thought they were very nice bu they also seemed very personal and not for public distribution. They should not be shared in the forum. We can't stop what others do on Facebook but we need to be sure to help protect Enya's privacy, and that of her family, here.

I have been stalked and had my life threatened. Accordingly, no one here will ever see my face. That’s perfectly awful, Moe. I’m so sorry to hear it. I was hoping that nobody on this forum had experienced that nightmare (which is how I should have worded it), so I apologize if my comment offended. I hope that threat is now long in your past and that you never have to face it again. — Stargazer

Whilst I wholeheartedley agree with intention of protecting people's privacy, technically my photos of Maire Brennan on stage would have fallen foul of this rule. I think I'm right in thinking that's not quite the intent. I think it should be widened to images from a public performance; but not just any appearance in a public space. ( For example my shot's of Maire on stage for the former and the latter : several shot's of Eithne out shopping from 2008, I think).

Yes, photos taken while someone is performing are ok here. A performance is a public "venue" - except if it is made clear by the venue that no pictures are allowed. As has happened at several concerts I have attended. But photos taken from a private FB page or a similar platform may intrude on privacy, depending on how the person posting them got them. But, especially, I don't want photos of various family children here unless the photos appeared in a publication, such as a newspaper. I think photos from newspapers are "public" and meant to be seen.
The Dungloe Mary event was public imo.

I intended to earlier but got caught up in my day and did not get to it. Members should always keep in mind that this can often be a judgement call by moderators and admins. Please respect the decisions made, as the correct call is not always obvious.

Enya is a public figure and I guess must expect that photographs of her will be distributed on the internet. Enya's niece is not a public figure, she is a child and therefore photographs of her at a private family function should not be copied from someone's FB page and published elsewhere. I take it that Bríd Sweeney did not give this permission at any stage.
