I got my first mobile in 1998 it was a Motorola Star Tac, that's because I was first hooked into Star Trek by the original series. My first smart phone was an Iphone in 2009, because there wasn't any real option back then.
I have a Samsung Galaxy from 3 years ago; it doesn't have a good camera as it doesn't take Canon DSLR lenses.
I mostly use the phone to access information when I'm out and about; and I'll either text, phone or message in that order.
I only listen to music via my phone with Bluetooth in my car.
I only use my phone when I'm watching television in the house, other wise it lives on the shelf with my wallet and car keys.
I still have a landline and have it set up with an answerphone. Sadly it doesn't have a button for sending a 10,000 Volt shock to someone who is annoying me. I only give out my mobile number to family and friends.
My phone is entombed in a rugged case with a subtantial screen protector.
It's possible Eithe uses an Apple phone because there is a certain selection of music software that is only made available natively on the Apple architecture; Logic Pro is The DAW for media composers and Moog only makes it's apps for Apple.
I think Eithne does ABSOLULTLEY none of her social media. I think I'm right in thinking she never wrote herself on Unity in its many years of existence. I have an Ipad, Kindle and Laptop, but I use a desktop for anything sustantial, nothing else has the lifting power.
The oldest song I can think of that mentions a phone explicitly is Blondie's " Hanging On The Telephone", but it's rather key Glen Miller's "Pennsylvania 6-5000."

I'm sure the notes we've seen were written by her, but otherwise I'd agree that Eithne doesn't do social media and has never appeared on any of the various fora to talk to members. And with as many scarily obsessed fans as we've seen over the years, I really can't fault her for that. Star Trek fan here too. Agreed with the shock thing. Right now we have a primary election next week and the robo-calls are driving me batty. I don't give out my number much either, but robocallers just auto-dial away until they get a working number. (Dear Politicians, if you call and annoy me I will NOT vote for you.)

I have a cell phone, but it is dumb. It makes calls and texts on a pay as you go plan. I rarely look at it; it is basically an emergency phone.

Moe , that's still a smart way of using a phone, even if it isn't a smartphone XD Nice to read your reply RichardF , and a response to the Enya phone question and old 'phone' song question too I'd assume she would use a desktop or laptop (MacBook?) for the digital audio workstation rather than a smartphone, but interesting to know the reasoning of why she might have an Apple phone/device for music software purposes. I'd agree with Riene about some of the notes being written by Enya herself on social media, and I'd like to think the message about her late brother is in her own words. About the song question (thanks Isabel too for mentioning 'phone' songs) has anyone got a song earlier than 70s? Pennsylvania 6-5000 is from the 1940s, and is a tune I knew of previously. It doesn't mention the word 'phone', but I looked the meaning up and found that the name referred to a telephone code, clever ๐ก

There was a studio tour where Nicky showed Eithne's workstation, which was primarily a desk top. I forget how old it was, but it had a cathode ray monitor, so probably not this century.

About the song question, has anyone got a song earlier than the 70s? The oldest song that I know/have listened to many times that mentions a phone, thanks to a Jim Reeves CD at home, is 'He'll Have To Go' - the song was released in 1959 :-D A singer called Billy Brown recorded the song first, and Elvis Presley also sang a version in 1976. (An interesting coincidence - the CD, which was released in 2009, is titled 'The Very Best of Jim Reeves' - although his is a posthumous album release, Enya released 'The Very Best of Enya' the same year )

A normal cellphone/dumbphone with buttons are much more reliable in case of emergency. The battery charge last for a week, very strong and durable, does not follow or track your movements on google which I know of... I found these old songs about phones and calls: "Hello My Baby" 1899 "Hello Frisco, Hello New York" 1915 "On the Party Line" 1915 "Hello Central, Give Me No Man's Land" 1917 www.zdnet.com/article/lets-have-fun-with-old-songs-about-phones-do-they-still-hold-up-in-2006/* Who invented phone and when was it invented?
It was at this time, 1876โ1877, that a new invention called the telephone emerged. It is not easy to determine who the inventor was. Both Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray submitted independent patent applications concerning telephones to the patent office in Washington on February 14, 1876. *

Was this the video showing the studio (control room) the one mentioned RichardF ? I'm not too sure about the year either, but I'd guess 2008 - it does look similar to the 'And Winter Came' EPK video from 2008Some interesting songs Isabel and ใค๐โณโฒ๐ง ๐
๐๐โ๐๐๐๐! The 'Hello My Baby' song is particularly cool to know about, and to listen to its recording from 1899!! Of course, the phone referred to in the Jim Reeves song is probably a rotary telephone rather than a mobile - it still appears to be the oldest to mention the word 'phone' ๐ค The song 'He'll Have To Go' also mentions a jukebox. I myself have never seen or used a jukebox, but I do know what one is It was invented in 1889, and wasn't referred to as a 'jukebox' until 1937 apparently. About the phone inventions - I definitely know of Alexander Graham Bell being associated with inventing the telephone, but I would consider Antonio Meucci more like the intital inventor. He developed his telephone type of device in 1874, but couldn't get the patent for it.

According to her mother Baba in an article from 2005 (need to find it again) Enya would text the vocal arrangements for singing with her sisters.
I finally found the article again! Here it is, from Irish Times in 2005 www.irishtimes.com/culture/brennans-bring-home-the-music-1.470865The quote being discussed is this: "Enya herself still contributes to the choir's arrangements - sometimes by text message if they're in a hurry, according to Baba."Anyone else up for guessing what Enya's phone ( not number!) would be now, and also what make of mobile phone she might have used back in 2005?

I don't care what phone she uses. My guess is that it's a top of the line Android/Samsung since those seem to be more popular in Europe than Apple products, and she can afford a good one.

Hooray For which phone she might have used in 2005, I imagine either some sort of Nokia or a Sony Ericsson. Somehow I think it's a bit trickier to guess what phone she'd have now, because there are so many models, more choice amongst basic old or high-end newer phones. Apple devices (mainly the iPhones) are most popular amongst young people (late teens) in the UK, but a few I know have a mid-range Samsung. (I have the Galaxy S10 in Prism Green; I never particularly wanted an iPhone.) I also see Enya with a newer Samsung phone. If she likes choosing interesting colours, I say either the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (the current newest one) in Burgundy, or even the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 in Lavender.
