I'd like to go back, but I'd rather travel with a friend and do our own itinerary. I'm not much into tours--the pace is often frenetic, and why do they always go to the Guinness plant? I like galleries and museums, music, parks, rivers, and a small amount of shopping.

A friend did a tour of Ireland as part of a England-Scotland-Wales-Ireland tour. They landed in Waterford, jumped on a bus, drove to Belfast, then down to Dublin and got on a boat for Scotland. I'm sure they stopped for lunch and dinner and bathroom breaks. What they saw of the country beyond the roadway, I'm not sure.

I want to go back to Ireland, but it's so horribly expensive now because of the exchange rate. I'm not sure if it will ever be affordable again, if I'm by myself. It stinks paying double for everything.
And then, I don't cope well with strangers, if I'm by myself, so I think a tour probably won't work. For various reasons, my better half and I cannot be out of the country at the same time, so again....bah.

Why not go by yourself or just invite the few people you'd like to travel go to with you? If no one else is invited to the party.. why worry? I'm not losing sleep over it, but the people that Do want to go are people I care about, and they Really want to go. I don't like hurting people's feelings. Having said that, if they did go with me, that is fine as long as they understand they are on their own once they get there lol. I have one friend I would love to take, but she's got a couple of kids and can't get the time away. I totally understand, of course, but she would be a blast to take with me.

Ah, I see. I would just slip out of the country, disguise myself in a long black leather trenchcoat and a pair of dark sunglasses, one small suitcase and a passport that wasn't my own--originally. They'd never find me. .....

They'd never find me. ..... That thought had entered my mind. Don't get me wrong, they would be fun to go with in a way, but only as long as they realize that I'm not going to party with them every night. I know one brother of mine wants to go. I wouldn't worry about him. He'll take off on his own with no problems. I'm curious if anyone else feels this way....Does some of the nut cases who travel to Ireland to stalk Enya kind of ruin it for you? Ok not ruin, but does it make you feel like others lump you in with some of those people, just because you want to go to Ireland?

It doesn't worry me. I've been to Ireland once, never went anywhere close to anything to do with Enya. We spent two weeks in the west and southwest. Friends who know we've been to Ireland also know that we've talked about wanting to go back since that trip. But before we do that, my husband wants to take a vacation in Scotland. So.. back to Ireland--sometimes, who knows when.

I don't know if we'll be going back anytime soon - there are so many new places to explore - but I don't go there only to stand at the castle or try to find Enya shopping in Dublin. If others lump me in with stalkers, there's not much I can do about it, but it would not keep me from going back.

I think what it is that I don't like is hearing people say to me "oh...because you are an Enya fan you want to go to Ireland." Or I will hear, "oh going to try to find Enya, are ya?" I hate that lol. I've wanted to go to Ireland since before I knew who Enya was...but I don't feel like I should have to defend myself. I have loved seeing all of the photos of Ireland that people have posted. So beautiful! It's so neat that so many of us here have already been. What a treat!

Well, I thought I was going to go to Ireland this summer (finally!!! ) but it turns out we can't. At least we are going to England, and we are going to visit London, Cantenbury, etc.

Right now, with the economy the way it is worldwide, traveling overseas isn't as expensive as it used to be. But then again, people have less money anyway. People spend less on luxuries.
I'm still hoping to go this summer if things work out. If I do, I will bring back lots of pictures!

Oh, how I'd love to go back to Ireland again.
I have this recurring dream of going there with a friend and spending about two weeks wandering with a camera from stunning view to stunning view, visiting galleries and cafes, little shops, gardens, and museums.
I want to see the south of Ireland. I have ancestors from County Cork so that's my excuse! We'd fly to Dublin, see the handful of things there that I didn't get to visit last time then go south. I would like to visit Powerscourt and environs, see Avoca and the Wicklow mountains again. I'd like to see the Ring of Kerry area and the coast, then head back up the west coast to Galway.
Ah well. One can dream...
Autumn and OWB, I hope you get to travel this summer!

I also hope that one or two members of MH can take an Irish holiday this year - I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I'm not planning one - my spouse, to be frank, says we've been there way too often as it is. We're looking at a SW USA trip this year.
