Summer where I am is the time for ceilidhs (pronounced as kay-lee) - gatherings of folks who want to celebrate their Celtic heritage. On the off chance someone may be interested, here's a website about Cape Breton Ceilidhs: www.virtualmuseum.ca/Exhibitions/Ceilidh/index_play.htmlNow, anyone else have stuff like this where they are? If you live in Ireland, I'd guess you'd say yes. ;D

That's a neat link, Kerry. When we were on Cape Breton, we went to a Highland Farm Living History Museum on Bras d'Or. I loved the school house--teachers (female, of course) were to remain unmarried and not have gentlemen callers! ;D It was such an interesting place. In the SE, we have the Highland Games on Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina, which feature Scottish fiddling contests, jam sessions and workshops: www.gmhg.org/

In Florida, Dunedin, to be precise, holds a Highlads Games festival every year.....The town of Dunedin has Scottish roots.....
I've always head the name of the town pronounced 'dun ee din'.with the e more a long e sound....
I've never been to their Highland Games, and I live closeby....maybe I'll gather the gumption one year, seeing as I'm a wee bit Scottish, from mum's side of the family....

I know of another Dunedin, in New Zealand, and the name comes from a town in Scotland, the "orginal" Dunedin. I pronounce it just as you said, big.
IIRC, didn't the Toronto Blue Jays have a winter practice field there in Florida?

Now if only they all sang and danced, we'd have a ceilidh! Of course, it would help also if they could actually play baseball (sarcasm here)...................................

Ah, my heart breaks for you, Sky. Ceilidhs are mainly a summer thing here, though there are some places where they go on all year round, mostly on Cape Breton island.
