Perhaps the "rarest of the rare"? I have heard the track, and found it very evocative. It certainly foreshadowed the "Enya" we have come to know over the years.
Put this on a "rarities" collection and I think it will sell big time.

Solar Winds has a rough, unfinished sound to it, but I like it. It would be interesting to hear what Team Enya might do with the song now.

I would love for Enya to sit down and revisit this song. When they are done, I'd like to be able to purchase it, along with other rare songs, on CD.

And what better time to issue an Enya "B-sides and Rarities" collection than in the 20th anniversary year of WM?
Having now listened to Sarah McLachlan's new "rarities" CD, I have to think "this seems so easy: just collect all those odds and ends and pull them together in an album."

The Solar Wind (An Ghaoth Γ³n Ghrian) has a very 80's sound to it I think and sounds quite Clannad I think. It's much less polished than the Enya we're now used to but it's got a kick to it and a rawer edge which is good.

It's the raw edge to Solar Wind that I like. It's a defiant sounding piece of music. "Yeah, I'm not in Clannad anymore. Take that!" I would guess this one does use a Prophet 5 synthesizer? The Roland D50 was developed in the late 80's, and I'm not sure when the Yamaha DX7 came out.

I also think a B-sides album would be great. I like The Solar Wind and think it would be a good addition to a b-sides or rarities CD.

I wonder are there other rarities in the Enya back catalogue?
"Water Shows the Hidden Heart - Original English version"
"The River Sings - Gaelic version"
Who knows??

And don't forget:
"Less than a Pearl" - the Latin version

The ending for Solar Winds is intriguing--it sounds almost unfinished. I wish I knew as much about music as Davyd, so I could describe the chord structure. I've occasionally wondered if she meant to leave the musical phrase hanging, or if she meant it to end on that questioning note.

It fits the melody so well. The song reminds me of Keith Jarrett in a way. I wish she had kept her instrumentals in this vein. It's so creative, and she could have developed some very nice, lengthy, pieces in this style. I hear this one song, and I miss what she could have done if she had developed her instrumental music along this line.

Iβve never heard this song. I have this habit of not listing to songs (of artists, of which I know I will buy the album of, regardless of the content of the CD) until I own them. To bad it will be very doubtful that I will own this song.

I started working on a vocal interpretation of this song, using the arrangment style and instrumentation I think Enya would currently use . . . but I put it on the back-burner. It's one of my favorite songs, though! I was one of the lucky ones to be in the know to purchase a copy when it was re-issued back in 1999.

If you ever take that project off the back burner, let us know. PS: Great to see you join our merry little band.

Hey, Bastian, good to see you here! If you have your version of the song posted someone, I'd love to hear it, or see sample lyrics. I'm not sure how I'd interpret that tune.
