Thank you for that, Isabel! Nicky's observations about the music scene in Ireland and Scotland VS. the music scene in England were interesting. Hmm, Nicky's views of the UK music scene at the tail end of the 80s are a little parochial. The English and to a degree Scottish music scences had already splintered into the diverse music scenes that they have today, Ireland was a little slow and small so there was really still only a single 'music scene'. The BBC recently replayed the episodes from 1988 when Orinocoo Flow hit No1. Yes there were hideous commercial monstrosities, but there were also early hits from the Rave seen begining to hit the commercial chart. Nicky is hyper spot on the with music technology, not so in touch with the actual music zetgeist.
From the folk point of view:living traditional music died in England almost a century before, whereas the folk traditions of Scotland and Ireland still link to the past.

Thanks for the article Isabel. One of the few where music is actually talked about. So Nicky puts reverb on each track, not the mix: intresting. No wonder they took ages to mix and had to go back and start again so often. So Clannad was "little sister stand there and sing this" for Eithne.

I was told a few days ago that "Orinoco Flow" is the song used when an AIDA ship leaves a harbour. Witnessed by my sister & my mother on the Northern Sea in north europe.
