It surprises me that over at Unity, in the Collecting thread, no one ever bounces up and says that they've obtained the video collection. It's getting harder to find, I'm sure, but there are copies (legal) out there on eBay.
I think the DVD Collection is the one Enya item that's worth paying a good bit of money for. I would rather have a legitimate copy of the collection than other items I've seen go for far more than I paid for my copy (which was under $70 w/shipping).
Roma said, "The music is very visual." So they tried soundtracks. The music videos combine music and visuals, they bring in the creative talent of artists and engineers, of a director with a vision. The collection of music videos is a big ball of all the best things about Enya and her music rolled into a delightful musical and video treat.
Maybe one day, Nicky will finish the 5:1 dolby remastering and they're push it out the door again. Yeah...

I have a bootleg copy of the DVD, bought years ago before I'd joined Unity. Jens told me it's one of the higher quality copies, and I don't think I paid much for it. While I'd rather have a genuine DVD, I don't think I'd ever be able to afford one.
I keep thinking there must have been some legal issue--copyright, permissions, something--that kept it from being properly released. We'll probably never know, though.

I honestly have no idea why the DVD remains secreted away, away, away. Surely the videos remain as good as they were when released. This is one item fans have wanted for a long long time, and yes, I would pay a premium price if required. I guess what I'd like most is a new DVD Collection that includes the videos from Amarantine. Oh yes, I'd like a million dollars too

I'd also like a new release with the Amarantine videos on them. At one time, a couple of years ago, I might pass information on to Jerome or Jens if I thought I spotted a bootleg copy on eBay or Amazon, but I don't anymore. The prices of real copies are so outrageous that if someone can snap up a good quality bootleg at a decent price, then so be it. The demand for the collection exists, and I believe most people would buy a legitimate version if it were available. In the U.S., we never even had a chance to buy it.

I have a legal copy of the DVD Collection sent by a good friend of mine from UK.I simply don't understand why it was never released to U.S. and Canada, regardless of the "excuses" that the trio would like to remaster the sound and so on...(lame excuse IMO...)

I think it was pulled because of a copyright problem. The remastering business is lame, especially 6 years later. If not that, then perhaps they were dissatisfied with the presentation of the videos on the dvd, had it pulled to redo the work and then went on to other projects and lost interest in the collection.
But I think it's a copyright issue--with Exile, or with the Top of the Pops performance, or the HCIKFS video and the use of the new clips within that video. Anyone of those videos could be the problem.
In the late '90's, National Geographic had a great idea: put the entire series of NG magazines on dvd. They had to quit selling them and releasing updates a couple of years later because of copyright issues with the photographs.

That seems like the scenario to me.
When my daughter and I were working on the crossword puzzles project last year, it was the website at Unity that we were watching the videos at. Much to our surprise, when it came time to do 'Book Of Days', we discovered the TOTP video (the white cello duo) had been replaced with the video that everyone had been clamouring for, namely the one that included scenes from the movie it was part of the soundtrack of.
So I feel certain it is a question mostly of copyright, especially since the two main performers in that video are divorced and everything that may play into that. Legally, to get it released for use must have been a nightmare, who's to say?
Something I find troubling about re-releasing the DVD is that they may want to do it as an all-encompassing work. Perhaps they are waiting until the end to do it now? Having looked at both the market and the demand for it, they may be getting their ducks in a row with it and waiting until the final curtain, at which time it would be produced with the latest technology that would be user-friendly at the time.
This gig about Blue-Ray and HD is way over blown, in my opinion.

I hadn't thought about a copyright problem - I guess I assumed that Warner would get all clearances necessary. But maybe not................. I do hope Aigle is not going to wait until they call it quits, for I see no sign of that happening soon, or even shortly. The re-mastering excuse was ok for a year or so, but it is indeed lame now. We all know Nicky is an excellent technician, and could have done the re-mastering by now. There has to be another factor, we just don't know for sure what it is.

Solely an opinion, but I think a copyright problem could exist with one of the news clips used in HCIKFS. Maybe Warner thought it had covered all the bases, but missed contacting one photographer or reporter whose work was included. They might be asking an enormous amount of money to sign off on Aigle and Warner's use of their material.
I know of one excellent documentary on a cult tv program that's languishing in a vault in the UK because Canal+ wants a ton of money for their use of video clips and stills from the program. Something similar may have happened with HCIKFS.
Of course--why not drop that video from the collection? I've never cared for it myself, and I'm not crazy about the Exile video either.

HCIKFS!!! Maybe they're reshooting. It's quite 'political' for Enya and badly made IMO.
I also would prefer to see the BOD of Far and Away fame rather than a TV version.

Honestly, I never understood why she recorded HCIKFS anyway. It's a lovely traditional tune (and it's NOT 250 years old as Enya kept saying in interviews), but I don't think she did anything especially original with it, and it doesn't fit on the album that well. There are so many video clips in HCIKFS that I feel like it would be easy for Warner to miss something. TOTP and Exile would be simple to obtain permissions for. If they ever do re-release the video, I hope it does have the BOD/Far & Away video on it. It'd be nice to have the vids for both versions.

On the subject of BOD I love the Gaelic version....so much energy.

I'd not mourn the extinction of the HCIKFS video - I never liked it. It seems so "unEnya" to me, when I first saw it I was dumb-founded by all those political images. They made the video "dated" and irrelevant for the future. In fact, many younger fans have no idea who all those people are/were.

I don't have the DVD collection. I couldn't get a legal one because it won't play on my DVD player. I hope they re-release it with new videos and in the U.S.

Mine is a illegal (the unique illegal item of my collection) region 2 copy (Brazil region is 4). Unfortunatelly, I have not how to get a legal one, and with a little luck, the quality of my copy is very good. At that time in Brazil (I bought it in 2001), we had region free DVD players by a local manufacturer, and a PAL/B compatible TV. It is a pitty that the release of that collection was so scarce (as so many other releases, as singles), they (who I really don't know who is... or I prefear don't know), seems to forgot that are Enya fans worldwide who simply will not be able to buy by internet. I don't think they will release the DVD again, maybe another collection without some videos may appear in BD one day, but it seems it will be difficult.
