I'd bought mine from eBay when I was a very new and somewhat younger Enya fan. It never occured to me at that point that it would NOT be a legal, legitimate copy.
I've had the opportunity a few times since then to purchase a legal copy on eBay, thanks to Jens' efforts at posting legit copies in his thread at Unity. The price promptly goes so far out of my entertainment budget that I doubt I will ever own one. I can only imagine the look on my husband's face, if I told him I'd spent our grocery and utility bill money on a DVD we already have a copy of!
If Aigle/Warner/whomever wants fans to own legal copies of the DVD or Solar Winds, or whatever, then they should release the media, use the same version worldwide, make it accessible to everyone no matter their 'zone,' no matter whether they have credit cards, internet purchasing ability, etc. The fans I know would happily pay for the real thing. I certainly would.

We can be optimistic and hope that a brand new DVD, containing every video Enya has made - including the ones from Amarantine and any from the expected new album - will indeed be issued. It would, I think, sell very very well, and be a sure money-winner for those involved in its production. Will it happen? I sure hope so, because I don't think the original (missing) DVD is going to be re-issued.

There may be issues affecting the dvd collection release but, if so, sorting them out and re-releasing the collection doesn't seem to be high on anyone's priority list. I just assume that Warner and/or Aigle have no interest in the set. Fans who want to buy it aren't able to, or they have to resort to bootleg copies on eBay. Real copies are becoming so scarce and so expensive. That's not much of a choice.

I agree that it's very hard to find real copies without the price getting way too high. I would love a new DVD with all of the videos. Maybe some interviews too. I think it would sell a lot of copies and make lots of money. I would also like to see a new DVD collection, that would play no matter what zone we were in. ;D I also unintentionally bought a copy that I thought was legitimate from ebay for around the same price as a real one, and it turned out it wasn't. I think it may be the closest thing to it though. I did buy all of the videos on iTunes ;D

Now that's a sore spot--to pay the price of a legal copy and then find out what was sold to you was a bootleg. I feel for you, but I'm also glad you've got the videos via itunes. I wish we could go amazon or B&N or wherever, and buy a new release--all the videos, the new videos, and if there was an updated A Life in Music, and/or some interviews, that would be fantastic. I'm not holding my breath though. It doesn't seem to be important anymore. <sigh>

My story is much like smaointe's...thought I was getting a legit copy from eBay, when, in fact, it's a bootleg.... I've tried for a legit copy, as well, which have all gone well past what I was willing to spend for it.... I am grateful for what I do have, even though a bootleg version, and, i can watch the videos legally here and at Unity, too...

It's so ironic: we'd gladly pay Aigle to have the authentic DVD, but instead some of us end up paying bootleggers by mistake. Our money goes to the wrong person. The remedy seems so simple: re-release the DVD Collection. But apparently things are more complicated for Aigle - at least I have to assume that.

From what I've been reading in this thread, I'm inclined to join you in yours, and others, line of thinking, that there must be some sort of problem with copyrighted materials, to keep the legal dvd on the shelf....
