Hello, everyone.
I was reading the text of Evening Falls from The Collection for the first time really through ...
It occurred to me that there are parallels to "Isobella".
Isobella is said to be about a "ghost child" Enya and probably Roma and Nicky say to have seen ... Or so I understood it.
The Collection also has Lyrics for her, but untranslated (not in English language) so I can't say a word about them.
www.enya.com has a translation of them:
Now, ewhere's a possible relation ?
It could be that the song "Evening Falls" might be partially a reflection upon this - experiencing a "ghost child", or a "spirit" in the castle's halls ...
Another reflection within it (the song) might be on how it might feel to be such a spirit-child ...
I snip out a few parts and lines from "Evening Falls" which to me seem to fit into that :
To "cross over" usually means ... well, in ancient Greek mythology it was the river of Styx. I don't think I need to explain it further.
What is real ? Is a "spirit" real ? Is the person observing, experiencing it real ? What is it, what the eyes actually see ? Especially, if they see a "spirit-child" ? What of this is dream, what of this is reality ? Can someone really trust one's senses, then ?
A child doesn't think so much as we do. It is just there - content, or maybe not content. It just goes through the castle - through the walls - supposed that we talk about a "real" spirit/ghost here. The real possibility of spirits is disputed, like everyone knows. Some people say they just don't exist, other say, they do. I cannot say. I have never seen one.
I wonder whether "Evening Falls" is of much earlier date than "Isobella", and documents first thoughts / a "first contact" with her. To Roma and Enya and to everyone else, actually seeing a spirit might be quite disturbing - assumed that we talk about something that is really existing, here.
Me, for example, I would feel *very well* disturbed by the sight of a "real" ghost or spirit alone ... But I wouldn't be frightened. I have experienced some strange stuff myself, but not at all, not in any way related to ghosts or to spirits. I'm just not that easy to surprise anymore.
I often wonder - *if* spirits and ghosts are real - how it would be to be one. What kind of "living" is this ? Does such a spirit think ? Why doesn't it just "die" like all the other millions of people do ? What kind of "binds" them ? Assumed that there really does exist something like that - at all.
What might Isobella "think" ? She is at home - but somehow - depending on when she really "died" - "so far away", meaning cut off from current time and space by some unknown ... force ?
And she might well be cut off from her parents as well ... I really don't know, I'm just speculating on how it might be ...
Summary: I think that the mentioned "child"/"shadow" of "Evening Falls" might be in fact Isobella. And that "Evening Falls" reflects first sights and thoughts about her. Assumed that she really exists.
What do you think ?

A song for a child. A spirit-child. One whom Enya and myself experienced yet no nothing about. A truly beautiful and peaceful child. We call the little spirit child Isobella, and this song is for her.

Translation:
You live from the beginning to the end
Isobella Isobella
A day that belongs to you, tranquil
A day that belongs to you, pure of heart
Love, now and forever
You live from the beginning to the end
Isobella Isobella
Your day has no sorrow
Your day has no sadness
Love, now and forever
Love, now and forever

As I walk the room there before me a shadow
from another world where no other can follow.
Carry me to my own, to where I can cross over...
Close to home - I cannot say.
Close to home - feeling so far away.
from another world where no other can follow.
Carry me to my own, to where I can cross over...
Close to home - I cannot say.
Close to home - feeling so far away.

Forever searching; never right,
I am lost in oceans of night.
Forever hoping I can find memories,
those memories I left behind.
I am lost in oceans of night.
Forever hoping I can find memories,
those memories I left behind.

Even though I leave will I go on believing
that this time is real - am I lost in this feeling?
Like a child passing through, never knowing the reason.
I am home - I know the way.
I am home- feeling oh! so far away.
that this time is real - am I lost in this feeling?
Like a child passing through, never knowing the reason.
I am home - I know the way.
I am home- feeling oh! so far away.
