How well do you know your family tree?
I can go back four generations with relative assurance. Other family members have researched extensively.
Where are your ancestors from?
Germany, England, Ireland
How important is knowing your family history to you? To your family?
it's interesting, but I'm not obsessed either. I don't consider myself a "whatever" American.
Have you ever done a home DNA kit test? Would you?
No, and no. It's not that I question the accuracy, but I do question the security. I keep seeing things here about that information used by the police, by insurance companies, by others.

Well, I'm sort of semi-interested in genealogy, but as doing the research is quite a mammoth task and here in Finland quite complicated, I think I don't have that much energy for researching it myself. I don't know anyone from my extended family who might have done any research within this topic, so sadly, I don't have any details to share... As for DNA tests, I have seen adverts of some home kits, but I don't consider those as accurate.

I can go back 3-4 generations with some sort of confidence....I definitely know I am of French, German and Polish heritage, but not too sure on the English, Irish and Scottish....I have some interest in my family tree, but not to the point I'm going to go through any of the genealogy sites at this stage....not that interested in my DNA profile to see what areas I might be from...

I can go back 4 generations accurately. As a child we had photos of my grandparent's garandparents, but they seem to have been lost over time. I'm from the English Midlands, my fathers family going back there to the mid 1800,s at least. My mother's family came from Ireland, via the Welsh valley's. I've not got around to doing a a broad test yet, had one done for health reason's. I keep meaning to. A word of caution for DNA test's. It's estimated 1 in 6 births are not what they are puported to be, and a Heridtary test can show that up very sharply. If your family is of a disposition to be upset by finding that your Gran or Mother had an affair, approach with care. There have been some very, very sad cases. You get counselling and back up if you go down that root medically.

How well do you know your family tree? Not extremely well. Where are your ancestors from? Poland, Germany, France, Russia. How important is knowing your family history to you? To your family? To me and my family, not too important. Have you ever done a home DNA kit test? Would you? No. Maybe I would.

How well do you know your family tree? Back to the early 1500s thanks to a Great-grand aunt on my mother's side and a cousin on my dad's side. Most were in the states by mid 1600s. Some on my mother's side were watching them land and thinking, "There goes the neighborhood". Where are your ancestors from? England, Ireland and mid-west(Sioux).
How important is knowing your family history to you? To your family? None of us have been that important for a couple of generations. Before that though they were movers and shakers. It's nice to know someone did something.
Have you ever done a home DNA kit test? Would you? No, no. Privacy issues will be a nightmare in about 10 years.
