Has anyone been there? I visited twice (on one day) - once in the daytime to have lunch and take a look around - the profiteroles were delicious. I loved looking at the award plaques on the wall - mostly for Enya. We then returned in the evening as it was a night Leo was scheduled to perform. We settled in, and began to chat with two charming local ladies, who were then kind enough to call Leo over and introduce us to him. He was very friendly and charming. As people arrived I soon saw someone I recognized sit not far away - it was Moya and her family. To my delight, she sang that evening. And I got an autograph. Baba was also there, so it was a "very Brennan" experience. It was a wonderful evening.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Moe. Sounds like you were in the right place at the right time! I know of a few people who have met Leo, and they all say the same thing. Very warm, friendly individual. I would love to see Moya sing as well. I've seen a few videos posted up elsewhere...when she is on stage, she really seems to enjoy it. Leo's seems to have such a friendly atmosphere. I wish we had places like that here Anyway, I hope when I get to go (hopefully soon) I will be as lucky. I say we have a MH Ireland trip! ;D

I've never been to the north of Ireland, just around the Dublin area. Leo's would be fun to visit, especially if one happened to bump into a Brennan Sister. I've heard Leo is semi-retired, now.

I went there with a group of Moya fan friends back in 2005, it was the most amazing experience ever. In all the photos I have this huge silly grin on my face, I still can't believe I've been there. We arrived and Bartley greeted us and later Leo arrived and he came over and chatted to us as well. Leo's such a showman, he tries to get everyone in on the act - he finally convinced us to get on stage and we sang "Two Sisters" (which I hardly knew). The food was also delicious, I've never eaten as much salmon as I had during my stay in Donegal mmm. I also got Leo's album for my dad who loves accordian music and got him to autograph it and Moya left us a few goodies, that was so sweet. We came back for lunch the next day and said farewell to a couple of friends, Leo was there again and was only too happy to pose for a photograph. *Sigh* What an amazing holiday... what an amazing part of the world.

Sounds wonderful, Liz. Any chance your song was recorded? Love to hear "Liz, Live at Leo's"

Leo has indeed semi-retired, although he still plays at weekends during the summer. I have seen MΓ‘ire sing on the stage in Leo's a good few times. I heard her on the radio recently saying that Clannad would be doing something special for the 40th birthday in September!
As some of you know I have bumped into the lady herself in her Dad's bar, usually aroung Christmas time. She was always very charming.

I'd love to go to Leo's Tavern. I'd like to go during Christmas, as you just can't tell who might show up. Draoicht, you're so lucky to be near the pub and able to drop in on occasion. It must be a great place to visit. Now, next Christmas if The Two Sisters are there, I hope you'll try to chivvy them onstage together. *That's* the event I'd like to attend!

This is a wonderful thread. Lucky you Kerry!
I have met Deirdre Brennan and worked with her on some arts projects but I would love to meet Enya in this situation. If I had a drink in me I would be asking her questions all night!

That's so great Kerry. Thanks for posting those pictures.
Lizzy, I had no idea Leo also had an album of his own. Did he write the songs himself?
I can imagine its wonderful to meet Moya in such a relaxing, worriless environment. Douse anyone know if Enya ever perform there? I can imagine that she's not around that often, but when she is, douse she sing to?

I don't think Enya has ever performed alone but has sung with her sisters.
Enya is an infrequent attender at the bar when home for family occasions.

Some people get drunk after drinking. I'd think for us long time Enya fans, we'd get *properly" drunk at the sight of Enya! P.S. It was very nice indeed for Bartley to post those recent pictures featuring the Brennan clan during the run up to Christmas.

Just noted that Leo's is going to reopen after the COVID-19 closure on 29th June, glad they're back again soon!

I just watched part of a travel episode of Samantha Brown's Places to love program. It was season 1 episode 10. It is the northwest of Ireland and includes Leo's tavern. This is the synopsis: Samantha travels to the Northwest coast of Ireland where she starts an epic adventure in County Donegal. She hikes up the sea cliffs of Slieve League, herds sheep on a local farm, and learns about the dying craft of wool-weaving. Topping off her County Donegal experience, Samantha visits famous Leoβs Tavern, where she meets Irish celebrity, Moya Brennan of the band Clannad This is a link: www.pbssocal.org/shows/samantha-browns-places-love/episodes/irelands-northwest-coast-insivh
