One of my most favourite songs is: Only If... on the 1997 Paint the Sky with Stars compilation album. I also like the music video. The Paint the Sky with Stars album features some nice songs before the 2000 A Day Without Rain album era which sold the most copies.
My Ranking in order:
1st - A Day Without Rain It is the most upbeat pop sounding album. My favourite colour is green. I am a millennial so I grew up in the pop songs era. I am a sucker for pop songs. My favourites: Wild Child, Only Time, One by One, Lazy Days... This was the album that introduced me to Enya's music. This was also the personalized signed vinyl I received last year.
2nd - Watermark I like the album cover art. One of my favourite hobbies is painting with watercolours and acrylics. My favourites: Orinoco Flow, Storms in Africa, On Your Shore...
3rd - The Memory of Trees The album cover art is the most striking and memorable. I was like 5 years old when this album came out, so I discovered it years later. My favourites: Anywhere Is, China Roses, Tea-House-Moon...
4th - Amarantine I like the idea of the Loxian Language. I am a typical nerd and a Lord of the Rings fan. My favourites: Water Shows the Hidden Heart, Less Than a Pearl, Amarantine...
5th - Dark Sky Island This album also features a bit of pop songs. I did mature a bit when this came out however, I am still a sucker for pop songs. My favourites: Echoes In Rain, Even In The Shadows, Diamonds On The Water...
6th - Shepherd Moons I discovered this album years later. I always knew about the music video: Caribbean Blue. My favourite: Caribbean Blue
7th - And Winter Came... I live on the African continent and I can't imagine snow at Christmas but I like the winter theme in the album. My favourite: Trains and Winter Rains 8th - The Celts/Enya This is the soundtrack album. It was not the Celtic songs that attracted me to Enya's music but rather the wall of sound and layered songs. My favourite: I Want Tomorrow

1. Dark Sky Island - It's such a cohesive album and very creative in terms of songs being quite different from one another.
2. The Memory Of Trees - Before DSI, This was the cohesive album I cherished the most. Such gorgeous tracks!
3. Amarantine - This one may come as a surprise ... It's not really a super favourite album of mine, but I like to play it. And one of my favourite songs closes it: Water Shows the Hidden Heart. It's one of Enya's masterful gems.
4. A Day Without Rain - In terms of production it's on par with Amarantine and therefore comes fourth. I find the album itself rather repetitive in its formula though, albeit it has some really outstanding songs.
5. Watermark - Because of some of the songs on this one being so stark and strong, and because it was Enya's first.
6. And Winter Came - Yes, the Winter album ranks just above two other albums. It's simply a lovely album to play and that's why it ranks a little higher.
7. Shepherd Moons - All in all this is a wonderful album, I just don't play it all that often. I find it slightly off balance and leaning too much towards the new age market, but there is essentially nothing wrong!
8. The Celts - this was always gonna end up at the bottom, simply for the lack of proper SONGS... most of the works here are instrumentals (some with vocalise) and despite a few remarkable songs, there isn't really all that much that glues this album together. Not an album I play often.

I never liked the idea of labeling Enya's music new age. Enya is simply a Irish Catholic who, at most, beautifies her faith with mysticism. I am not exactly a fan of new age music, however I will sometimes listen to Vangelis. Vangelis, is a Greek musician and composer of electronic, progressive, ambient, jazz, and orchestral music. His music is also described as new age.

For me each album has its own pros and cons, but, here is my ranking based on how often I listen to them:
1. TMOT 2. Amarantine 3. Dark Sky Island 4. And Winter Came 5. Watermark 6. The Celts 7. Shepherd Moons 8. ADWR
Putting ADWR on last means that I somehow find the album a bit "unfinished", it lacks something.

I really need to listen through all of them again.
Especially the older ones are more like precious gems to me, which I only dig out and hold into the light once in a while ...

I mainly only listen to The Celts through to The Memory of Trees, though its not just an Enya thing. With most artists I typically prefer their earlier material. For me it would specifically go:
1.) Shepherd Moons - the album in my head when I think of Enya. Only track that I do not care for on this album is Angels. Otherwise for me 10/10 album. Love the artwork.
2.) The Memory of Trees - very very close second.
3.) Watermark - I like the gerneral slightly desperate/mornfull sound such as heard in Exile and On your Shore.
4.) A Day Without Rain - a little to happy for me (im into more melancholic stuff), plus I feel that its the beginning of a sound change. Less mystical than previous TMOT.
5.) The Celts - only reason so far down is the lack of vocals on most tracks.
6.) Amarantine - favorite song of album is Long Long Journey.
7.) Dark Sky Island - my least favorite album besides seasonal. I just feel like she sounds more mature in it, which is natural, just personally I love her early works.
8.) And Winter Came - not really my cup of tea.

I have listened to all of Enya's released songs, and most of the albums in full at a time. However this is probably only one or twice though as I do not have any of the CDs. I will try and obtain them eventually, particularly when a new album will be released For now, of the main 8 Enya albums โ which I listen to most overall to what I listen to least overall is most likely in this order: - A Day Without Rain
- Watermark
- The Celts/Enya
- Shepherd Moons
- Dark Sky Island
- The Memory of Trees
- And Winter Came
- Amarantine
There are at least 2 songs I enjoy listening to regularly from every Enya album; there is usually at least one song I don't wish to play as often, probably because of the lyrics in some way. For the lyrics I prefer the references to natural surroundings and journeys rather than the romantic stuff, but I can still appreciate it if it can be adapted to have another significant meaning and sound wonderful, like Only Time.
I would have preferred some of the albums to have a different name or another picture of Enya to reflect on the themes better, but I believe the singles are all very well-chosen. I think the covers I like best overall are The Memory of Trees and Dark Sky Island. Amarantine covers - with the leaves/yellow for extra tracks from The Celts, and the Christmas edition with the blue background are good - both better than the original. And Winter Came is okay; different because of the horse, but seems too heavily edited. The 'Enya' cover is okay, a bit odd with stuffed barking dogs alongside her, and doesn't really suit the music within. The Celts and A Day Without Rain have a more worn-out-history, sort of gritty background, but the colour scheme and outfit work with it, and generally suits the music. I do like the artwork in the Watermark cover, and the background theme in Shepherd Moons. I sort of wish that all the album covers had featured her slight smile. The sorts of album covers (non-Enya) that I particularly like involve eye-catching illustrations: 'Back to Bedlam' by James Blunt, and 'A Night At The Opera' by Queen (which was based on artwork by Freddie Mercury).
The creative process and the way Enya's albums are recorded and produced are excellent, and I can trust that the next Enya album will be too, and perhaps one of her best albums. ๐ค๐ผ๐ถ๐
