That's a fascinating glance back at Enya's early career, Candace. Thank you for doing the research!
My guess is that Enya, Nicky, and Roma were just finding their stride at that stage. They had released Enya's first "official" studio album in 1988 and didn't yet have a firm grasp on the amount of time it would take to satisfactorily complete a full album that met the high standards they had set for themselves. That experience between Watermark and Shepherd Moons seems to have established the roughly 3-year interval they maintained for a good part of Enya's career, until she took her first long break after "And Winter Came...".

Another possibility: after the surprise success of Watermark, they renegotiated their contract to give themselves more time to create subsequent albums!
Could very well be! They certainly would have had more leverage after that first remarkable success!
I have to disagree about the gaps between albums. It was three years between the first two. But then four years from SM to TMOT. We then waited five years until ADWR, though their first "greatest hits" also came out during that interval. After ADWR, it was a long five years until Amarantine. Point taken. I guess I had stuck in my mind Enya's comments in several of her DSI-era interviews that she usually took three years to finish an album. I wonder if she was just referring to start-to-finish time in the studio, and that other factors beyond her control account for the additional years in the examples you cite.

Well that first note was a bit insulting...Americans less sophisticated?? *folds arms* Really. That was an interesting set of articles, Candace! Thank you for posting them! Well, we do have Americans on this forum who are dedicated Enya fans. I would say that makes them sophisticated individuals. I have met some Americans in real life and they really make good conversation about all kinds of topics of science, philosophy and weather etc. It is just that most of the world's people are jealous of Americans and they all want to live there. Who cares about the constant toxic chatter on social media... It is wrong to stereotype the English as snobbish and the Africans as primitive. I am a proud South African and I am not being chased by lions... Thanks, Candace66 for posting these press articles.

Thank you for sharing that interview, Candace. I listened to it when it originally came out and was delighted with the relaxed, friendly exchange between Elaine Paige and Eithne, and learning that Eithne is a big fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals (as am I!), but I had forgotten all the details she shared about her working habits and rhythms. It was a very enjoyable and enlightening refresher!
