Do you or your family or country note the New Year as a holiday or event?
Is it a day off from work or a time to celebrate? Do you celebrate New Year's Eve or New Year's Day or both?
What are typical celebrations like?
Do you make New Year's resolutions for the upcoming year?
What are your goals or hopes for 2022?

We've never done any fireworks (advantage to see others doing it from indoors here at home as we live on fourth floor, no hearing impairment/risk of eye injuries etc.), we only cast the tin when I was still a child but these days that is out of question as it isn't very environment-friendly... We've never had any bubbly either, let alone crisps, "nakki" mini sausages or potato salad which are typical Finnish New Year snacks!

PS. As for New Year's resolutions, more cycling and perhaps more knitting for me as well! Oh, and more photography for sure!

Do you or your family or country note the New Year as a holiday or event? Yes, it is typically celebrated with a braai/BBQ under the summer night stars. It nice because social distancing can be managed outside in the yard. The 12PM curfew is specially lifted for this purpose. We normally keep it very small with maximum five people and a two cats. Fireworks are banned in a residential area. The municipal bylaws are very strict in our area. There are specially zoned public spaces for these type of things. I don't really bother with fireworks. Is it a day off from work or a time to celebrate? Do you celebrate New Year's Eve or New Year's Day or both?It will be a day off from work for me until the 7th of January. We celebrate until the 7th of January. The perks of being a mathematics tutor and freelance consultant... What are typical celebrations like?A braai/BBQ under the summer night stars. Pre-braai snacks like cream cheese and mussels on crackers. Pre-braai snacks are very necessary because of the many drinks. Never drink on a empty stomach... We will be keeping it very basic this year with salad and the traditional 'vetkoek' or fried dough bread with farmer's sausage and tomato stew. Do you make New Year's resolutions for the upcoming year? No, you are setting yourself up for unrealistic expectations. I take the year and adapt to it spontaneously with real-time problem solving. What are your goals or hopes for 2022?A new challenging job perhaps. I am still young and I am currently stagnating and not learning much more. Perhaps I should get experience abroad. Australia or Ireland... I know the whole world is heading for financial collapse but you need to weigh your options.

Do you or your family or country note the New Year as a holiday or event? Growing up, my family never did. As a young adult I did host / attend various New Year's Eve parties but they were all pretty low key. Snacks, drinks, watching the event on television. Now he and I (if we happen to still be awake) just kiss and say Happy New Year. Our crazy back neighbors will get out their guns and shoot into the air for several minutes.
The country generally does. New York City is famous for the Times Square block party, and our state's capital downtown does a big outdoor event. Both have a light-up ball that drops on the stroke of midnight. Fireworks only happen at the big events.
Is it a day off from work or a time to celebrate? Do you celebrate New Year's Eve or New Year's Day or both? Everyone works on New Year's Eve. New Year's Day is generally a day off from work. Probably folks are recovering from hangovers.
What are typical celebrations like? Well, the downtown celebration has all the bars and many restaurants open, with people walking around in party clothing *despite* the temperatures. Much alcohol and snacking. People usually kiss at the stroke of midnight and throw confetti. There will be fireworks.
Do you make New Year's resolutions for the upcoming year? Usually, though I usually don't tell anyone.
What are your goals or hopes for 2022? I hope 2022 is a better year world wide, but I'm not optimistic. I think the political strife in my country is going to get worse, Covid will still be a major issue, and we'll probably end up shutting down schools and businesses again.
Personally, I'm going to try to do more walking, get outside more, travel to England, turn the back room into a crafts/arts/sewing space, attempt to play the piano again, do some photography projects, and continue doing the Marie Condo house-clearing routine. I suspect spring will involve another surgery, though, blah.

New Year's Eve/Day is probably my favourite celebration of the year! ๐ For the last few years, I have said that I rather prefer it to Christmas Day ๐
Every year I remember (about 2008 onwards) we have stayed at home. Although I quite like it that way, I would enjoy going somewhere else with my family for the New Year one day My parents saw the New Millennium fireworks in London for free...๐ก we were thinking of going in 2019 for 2020, but tickets sold out very quickly, and were a bit expensive too. Still, it is more cosy to watch on TV at home โบ๏ธ๐บ๐ Some years I wear new pyjamas, a new jumper, or a brand new dress ๐ in time for the last hour of the year ๐ In the evening we have various canapรฉs and other snacks ๐ Sometimes I help with making some; for 2015 I remember being more into baking- I made cupcakes, and little Filo pastry twists and parcels ๐๐ง๐ฅง By choice I do not drink alcohol, so my sisters and I have some nice sparkling drinks, like J2O or Shloer. We all say cheers ๐ฅ and wish each other Happy New Year when it arrives ๐ Hogmanay in Scotland also seems like fun to join in with one day ๐ We also sing the wonderful song Auld Lang Syne too ๐ถ My voice might be a bit off this year..! I don't remember feeling ill for the New Year like this, but despite that I will definitely join in with the celebrations at midnight! ๐
๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ๐ As well as watching little clips of the New Year around the world from the evening onwards until the afternoon, we always watch the fireworks display beginning at midnight in London! ๐๐๐๐ Hope everyone has had/will have a wonderful Happy New Year 2023! ๐
