As we know, Ukraine won the overall vote in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Next year, since Ukraine unfortunately isn't safe to be the hosts of ESC 2023, it will be hosted somewhere in the UK instead. However, the idea that Eurovision is finally returning to the UK is great! It should also honour Ukraine, of course. The location hasn't been confirmed, but interestingly Glasgow in Scotland is being discussed at the host city! Anyone here been? I am currently in Glasgow Edinburgh is said to be a twin city of Kyiv; it would also be a nice choice ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ There has also just been an official announcement that the BBC will host Eurovision in the UK, and that cities are bidding to host ๐ฌ๐ง๐บ๐ฆ

There has also been quite an interesting bet (about 52% chance) that Glasgow will be the UK host city for Eurovision 2023 on behalf of Kyiv, Ukraine
It would be nice to see that happen on a visit to Scotland next year Edit: it was announced on 7th October 2022 (which was the same day as the tragic event in Creeslough, Donegal, so decided not to post about this on the same day) that Liverpool would host Eurovision 2023, not Glasgow. Still, Liverpool is a decent choice. The city has connections to Ireland, and The Beatles were famously from Liverpool. I visited that museum ๐ผ and the Maritime Museum too ๐ข. It should be quite a worthwhile hosting of the Eurovision final.

I'm not a fan of the UK entry this year; the entry for Ireland is better. Still, it will be interesting to see how Eurovision 2023 turns out from Liverpool. Glasgow was a nicer option, but it should be good. Also Graham Norton (he had spoken to Enya in 2015 here) who usually does the Eurovision commentary for the UK, will be presenting some of it this time

I didn't watch the whole of the semi final yesterday (still busy with uni work) but I did find out that Ireland unfortunately didn't make it through ๐ Article
They have won many times before, but still, it doesn't seem too fair that Ireland hasn't been in the Eurovision final since 2018, thought their songs are rather decent. Perhaps their luck may return with Jedward or maybe even the trio write a song and Enya enters ๐

Well, team Ireland need to find something more unique and not send any of those lukewarm pop singers there! It seems that they have given up although I know the talent is there. Just stop trying too hard, you have it there, Ireland!
Personally it would be wonderful and unique to send a song sung fully in Irish Gaelic!

Obviously many non-English songs from semi-final 1 succeeded and made it through to the final, Kรครคrijรค and Croatia's Let3 being two of those. It's just doing something that feels natural to be done, never overthinking it too much...
Suvi (who absolutely likes Let3's hilarious entry)

Is it a song competition anymore? It's much more than merely a song competition, it has evolved a lot over the years! Mind you, it would be very interesting to see e.g. a heavy metal performance in Irish Gaelic some day (or some Irish Gaelic rap perhaps)! Suvi

The feeling in Ireland is that neighbouring countries vote for each other and the quality of the song has little to do with the matter. Maybe we are just sore losers but some of the โsongsโ that made it through to the final were awful.

There are always good and bad songs, it's always been like that! But Team Ireland needs to upgrade themselves into today's music trends, sending a dated pop group apparently didn't work.

Folks, Just found out THIS article online about one of this year's Irish hopefuls for ESC, so thought to share it here as well. And, the YouTube lyric video of the song can be found HERE . Go Ailsha! Personally not my style music-wise but still very very catchy! Suvi Edit: Well, not lucky this time as it is Bambie Thug that was chosen, but Ailsha came good joint second! Well done anyway!
