If I could ask Enya a music theory-related question it would probably be something along the lines of this ๐ผ๐ต
I would guess that Enya's favourite key signature to compose in is A major; I think it might be her favourite key overall.
(Two of Enya's favourite songs: Every Breath You Take by The Police is close to A (the song's tuning is half a step down), and Avalon by Roxy Music seems to be in F major. They are both continuing to be popular today; the official video for Every Breath You Take got to 1 billion views recently, and Roxy Music are doing a 50th anniversary tour, with Bryan Ferry still singing Avalon well.) ๐
I would like to categorise all of Enya's released songs by their main key signature, eventually, and see which appears most
I only know that Enya didn't really like G major, mentioned here. However, she does use this key signature in the song Pilgrim, and G mixolydian (uses the note F instead of F# I think) in Orinoco Flow.
My favourite key signature (for its sound overall rather than ease of playing) is Eโญ major ๐๐
Enya songs in this key signature (including the parallel minor, C minor):
Only Time, Anywhere Is, Boadicea, Lazy Days, Only If, Sumiregusa, Triad: St. Patrick and Cรบ Chulainn, I May Not Awaken, Last Time By Moonlight, The Memory of Trees, Cursum Perficio (beginning-middle), How Can I Keep From Singing? (last verse) and No Holly For Miss Quinn (a section in the middle)
*Some significant songs in E flat...! Just a tiny disappointment is that Dark Sky Island doesn't seem to have any songs in Eโญ major. Lots in the range of Db-E major, which I like almost as much though. I hope there will be an 'Eโญ hit' in the next Enya album ๐ ๐ถ

In her music, particularly the fan favourites, I think there is quite a lot of A major/F#m (like May It Be, Echoes In Rain, Water Shows The Hidden Heart, Smaointe, and more). Also C major/Am (Wild Child, The Celts, Someone Said Goodbye, etc.) and F major (China Roses, Watermark, and the final key change in Caribbean Blue)
Does anyone here have a particular key signature that they like best? Perhaps if you aren't as sure about the keys, are there a few Enya songs that you are primarily drawn to by the tune or chords? Maybe there will be an 'average' amongst the songs chosen
