Enya, more than any artist I know, has mastered so effortlessly the art of the lilt. Itโs that punctuated shift of note, like a subtle spike, but so gently performed, that gives many of her songs that unique character of excellence you want to hear again and again.
For examples, the two songs demonstrating this right noticeably are -
BOOK OF DAYS (Shepherd Moons)
. . . One day, one night, one moment,
. . . My dreams could be, tomorrow.
. . . One step, one fall, one falter,
. . . East or west, over earth or by ocean.
. . . One way to be my journey,
. . . This way could be my Book of Days.
>> .ร lรก go lรก, mo thuras,
THE LOXIAN GATE (Dark Sky Island)
. . . Ora beyhe o llay ay o ay a bey ah llay
. . . Ora beyhe o llay ay o ay a bey ah aday
. . . Phormmayonay
. . . Menemmay bayrr o no
. . . Orpirrrommay . . . Eepha lyi kul ay o no
>> .Oooo vaya vee oooo daya dee
Wonderfully done and a joy to hear.
