Time Magazine has ranked that the Finnish movie Kuolleet Lehdet (Dead Leaves) by Aki Kaurismรคki is the best movie in the whole world this year! Yay! It has already had so much other success too, Aki Kaurismรคki always does get, I'm sure you know him.
What kind of movies do you like?

There are quite a few movies/films I like, but I haven't watched any for quite a while (months at least). I've been to the cinema about 5-6 times in my life (3 in 2019). ๐๐ฌ I'd say the most famous movie that I have watched multiple times is Titanic (1997). ๐ข I've watched bits of Harry Potter, Avatar, and Lord of the Rings, but probably not the whole films. ๐
As for black-and-white films, I'd quite like to watch more of them. My favourite black-and-white film is Twelve Angry Men (1957), I watched it when I was 14-15 and although I am not exactly into law/jury service, I found it very interesting. I like 'clever' characters, sometimes intelligent but those who can see from many perspectives, not just seeing things as good and evil.๐ก For ones with certain actors, I quite like some Rowan Atkinson films (the Johnny English films, Man Vs Bee, and Mr Bean, of course ๐). Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (2011) and the SpongeBob movie (2004) were ones I really liked when I first watched them; they're still good. I like some Disney/Pixar and Dreamworks CGI animated ones quite a lot e.g. Frozen, Brave, Tangled, Rise of the Guardians, all 2010s. (Brave and Rise of the Guardians are my favourites to rewatch ๐น๐ possibly since they didn't overdo the story with sequels/series, haha.) Others include A Monster in Paris (2011), the Madagascar films, and Ice Age (first 3 films were good). I generally like all the 2D animated Disney ones. ๐ช My favourites of those might be Sleeping Beauty (1959) and The Jungle Book (1967). I kind of want to see Wish (2023). โจ The live-action ones I'm not as much of a fan of; watching them once or twice is enough. ๐
Though I did really like Maleficent (2014) and also the Paddington films. Biopics; I like Bohemian Rhapsody but like live-action films, I only have interest watching these once or twice. If Enya had a biopic ๐ I think there are a handful of actresses who look similar-ish, but hard to imagine someone else sound like her (speaking-wise, and non-layered singing). โบ๏ธ Foreign language films are actually rather interesting. I'd like to watch more (but will wait until I have less uni work before I go discovering all these films ) Still, I'll probably see/rewatch more films in the Christmas holiday. ๐๐

More news about the success of the Finnish film Kuolleet Lehdet by Aki Kaurismรคki after the Time magazine named it the best movie in the whole world this year: The acress Alma Pรถysti has received a Golden Globe nomination for a best actress in a comedy/musical for her role in it. Obviously Aki Kaurismรคki's movie isn't an American kind of a comedy for example. Also the movie is nominated for a best non-English Golden Globe and it will be Finland's entry to win the best non-English Oscar. But cool that Alma is nominated in a category that isn't for non-English ones. And congratulations Aki for all the success, he's always such a great filmmaker, he's always had so much success abroad.

Thank you ๐ชทaestas๐ชท for recommending your country's film. I've found foreign cinema with subtitles to be a delightful escape from mainstream blockbusters. Here are some noteworthy films I've seen:French: Amรฉlie (2001), Three Colours trilogy (1994), Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) and Call Me by Your Name (2017) Finnish: The Rise and Fall of Nokia (2018) and Tove (2020) Icelandic: Woman at War (2008), Lamb (2021) and Last and First Men (2022) Japanese: Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), Spirited Away (2001) and Howl's Moving Castle (2004) South Korean: Parasite (2019) Swedish: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009), The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009) and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest (2010)

Someoine recommended to me the movie "Love, actually", so I bought it for me for the night of the turn of the year. I hade it into a tradition to watch a good movie that very night. Apart from that, I find the French "Amelรญe" movie just wonderful ! Apart from them being movies with real actors, I must say that I'm only watching animated movies for several years now. Of that, I found both "Frozen" movies having very strong, good stories, and on the other hand I was so much ... so much *incredibly* disappointed of that totally awfully weak plot of the "Onward" movie by Disney ... What could have been a great and a strong fantasy story turned out into ... something I just id not like. Especially with the female figures in it simply stealing the show. Maybe they planned to let male protagonists show a softer side in that movie ... and maybe that worked for the female audience - but that movie totally failed with/in it for the male audience. Ugh ... enough ranting. Of the animated movies I watched I love Zootopia (translated as "Zoomania" in the German language; apparingly someone was already holding the name rights for that in Germany), "Raya and the last dragon" and "Luca", which is a really wonderful movie ! And, of course, both "Sing" movies. I love them !

I have watched the first film, and bits of the sequels and television programmes; I remember Astrid, and Toothless the black dragon too Frozen of course โ๏ธ I enjoyed the short films, although think Frozen 2 wasn't as good as expected story-wise, but I look forward to Frozen 3 and 4 ๐ช There are occasional comparisons that the Frozen soundtrack had to Enya's music - this 2014 article mentions "that ethereal but powerful Frozen sound (think Enya but less Celtic and with more heft)" haha. I have yet to watch the others mentioned. Onward (from trailers/title, not seen it fully) looked a bit like Frozen with brothers, but seemingly not received as well. I also really liked Zootopia/Zoomania/Zootropolis

"How To Train Your Dragon" like the Hiccup profile picture? I have watched the first film, and bits of the sequels and television programmes; I remember Astrid, and Toothless the black dragon too I LOVED that ! The soundtrack music CD is also great ! I had been chosing this avatar picture, because I felt so much totally like him ! And his father ... was much like my father as well ... With Frozen ... Yes, I felt a lot like Elsa in the first movie did ... an outcast, being called a monster ... onl at peace when living in the own world ... I had been ullied at school, and, essentially, it destroyed my life ... by creating my social phobia ... The second movie was very intense for me, as it hinted towards my own spiritual side, whch I just couldn't live, due to constraints ( I'm still looking for a better living flat ... ). Of Zoomania I read that these is currently a second movie in the making ...
