It would be nice with board dedicated to Celtic music in general - there are plenty of gems outside just Irish: Karen Matheson(And Capercaillie, of course) and SiΓ’n James for instance, who sings in Scottish Gaelic and Welsh. As well as French artists such CΓ©cile Corbel and Nolwenn Leroy. I also adore Loreena McKennitt!
I love Connie Dover who regurarly sings in Irish, her voice is heavenly. Other than that I listen to Dolores O'Riordan, Celtic Woman, Cranberries, Moya Brennan, Meav, Lynn Hillary, Orla Fallon, Clannad, some songs by Altan. I hope CaraNua with Lynn Hillary will develop further. I am sure I'm forgetting someone now, but those are the Irish ones I can think of at the moment.

I have been a big fan of The Cranberries for over 25 years. Dolores' passing hit very hard, a huge loss.

At last Celtic rather than Irish. Music from the Gaeltacht is much closer to Enya, than Val Doonican and Jedward !
So apart from Clannad, Cheisty Moore and Planxty. The first album of proper music I bought was Reflets by Alan Stivel, way back, awesome Breton harp music. I also have a weakness for some scottish folk bands, I'm particularly a huge fan of Skye's Peatbog Fairies.

Same for me, but I am looking forward to her last albums with The Cranberries and D.A.R.K!

Speaking of the Cranberries(again) has anyone given the last album a listen? I love it! And I was even more thrilled when I discovered tonight that they released a song in Irish from their early era, called 'Γosa'. It quickly became one of my favorite of their songs!

Any other people who like the music of Secret Garden? I recently ordered their brand new album entitled Storyteller, which has been already dispatched for me. Haven't heard any soundbits off it though, but I'm sure it will be full of great music anyway!

Some not-so-good news from Secret Garden: Unfortunately, the group has had to postpone all this year's concerts to the future because the violinist Fionnuala Sherry is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I really hope she could beat her health problem and get back to music...

Lynn Hilary - does anyone listen to her? I love her soothing, almost chill(as in cold) voice. She's been releasing a lot of singles this year - many of them in Irish! She's really talented.

I am only seeing this post now. I think that βIn the Endβ is such a strong album and reminds me of The Cranberries first two albums. To hear Doloresβ voice on a new set of songs is a gift...... very bittersweet though.

Just got back from a church concert featuring a stunning trio, namely, Catherine Ennis (organ, daughter of Seamus Ennis, one of Irelandβs most celebrated uilleann pipers and remarkable collector of song and lore), Paddy Glackin (the original fiddle player with The Bothy Band), and Neil Martin (a native of Belfast, who grew up playing traditional and classical music on uilleann pipes and cello) gave a wonderful concert as part of this year's Irish Festival. At least some of these musicians have performed at Oulu Irish Festival before (with the late Liam O'Flynn I think, too bad I wasn't able to make it into that concert!), but I think this was the first one for these people that had Oulu Main Cathedral as the venue. I was there with Mum, and, as I knew the church would be packed full, we went there early, only to witness that once again, the church DID become packed full! As I was not able to get any video clips from the concert (due to that the battery of my mobile phone was running low), I can only give you examples from the setlist, which featured both pieces I had heard before (Easter Snow, Uirchill An Creagain which also Clannad recorded for their Anam album), and many pieces that were completely unknown for me (The Gold Ring, Planxty Stackallan, The Boy In The Glen to name but just a few of them). All three musicians did stellar work from the very first tone to the very last one, and especially the organist Catherine Ennis was more than magical! She played both the big and the small organ of the cathedral, and her ability to use so many different tones, registers and colors was indeed jaw-dropping. I have listened to both organ being played by local organists in the past, but they never seem to utilize the instruments as versatilly as Catherine did! Especially "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" deserves a mention here, I knew Loreena McKennitt's version of it which sounds quite scary, too, but this concert version was pure halloween stuff thanks to the mighty big organ sounds! Too bad I was not able to find any soundclips of this trio from the web, but this concert was indeed worth for attending (free entry, programme fee only)! Now waiting for tomorrow's Celtic Mass at the same venue (will only be as a listener then)! In case anyone is interested in watching the Mass live, you can do so at Virtuaalikirkko (choose "Messu Oulu" with the date of Oct 6th). The Mass will start on Sunday at 10AM Finnish time. Suvi Update: The day 4 photos can be found from the festival's Facebook page HERE. I'm on at least one photo! Also, the Celtic Mass that was earlier today can now be watched via the Virtuaalikirkko site, though not in full as there were some technical issues with the online platform.

... I hope CaraNua with Lynn Hillary will develop further. ... CaraNua just released an album, 'Celtic Dreaming' which includes originals in Irish, songs about Irish/Celtic mythology, covers from Secret Garden among others , and classics such as Danny boy and Ave Maria. The sound resembles Celtic Woman a lot(which makes sense since there are ex-members in the group). It should be a great listen for many of you in this forum, I'd think! I reckon it's on most streaming services, at least Spotify and GPM(which I use).
