Thanks for the link, Angoid But I have to agree: without Moya, Clannad is just not "Clannad" to me

I agree. Moya's voice binds the group together. If she left Clannad (or rather did not find time to do another Clannad or Clannad tour) they'd be hard-pressed to replace her. The only obvious replacement for Moya has no interest in being involved with the group.

Some of you may be wondering how things went at that Spirit of Voice event in Galway last weekend.
Unfortunately, it's bad news all round. On Tuesday evening (before going away), I received 3 independent messages saying that the event had been cancelled due to lack of interest. One was from a friend I was going to meet there (from Moya's forum), and as she was still going I decided it would be nice to spend a couple of days there anyway and we had a lovely time. Clearly though, what we had gone over there for did not happen so that was rather disappointing. There was to be a concert on the Friday evening and a voice workshop the next day - both cancelled.

<look of pain and bewilderment> I'm so sorry to hear about that. I can't believe that people wouldn't want to take workshops with Moya Brennan, or see Clannad in concert.
I'm playing Fuaim now. This is painful news.
All my best to Moya and the other members of Clannad.

Thanks TC - the organisers blamed the Credit Crunch. Apparently, only 9 tickets for the concert had been pre-sold, so I imagine there were a lot of folk who were simply going to turn up on the day. As for the workshop, I imagine it was a similar story.
I think everyone involved were quite gutted. Great pity - I was looking forward to the concert and then seeing what Moya had to say in her singing workshop.
The cancellations were very last-minute: even the tourist information centre didn't know, and none of the posters for the concert that I saw (except for in the music shop where we ordered the tickets) carried any indication that the event had been cancelled. That's just how last-minute the whole thing was.

How sad for the group, to have the event cancelled due to lack of interest. That would be quite disheartening. I'm glad you had a chance to get away for the weekend, though.

This was sad news for people who wanted to go there and also for Moya. Let's hope that her concerts in the Netherlands, Ireland and Germany will be crowded with many enthusiastic fans!

I couldn't believe this when I read it. I can't understand why people wouldn't be interested. Maybe it is due to the credit crunch.

I hope they try this again, maybe in the Spring. IIRC, didn't I once read on Moya's forum that she gave a harp workshop in Scotland? Can you imagine taking a workshop on harp or voice from Moya Brennan? What an opportunity!
Well, better luck next time. I hope Moya's tour of Germany goes great guns in November & December. I'm going to miss her not being here at the local Celtic Christmas celebration that she's performed in for the last two years.

I hope they do as well. The friend I met up with - some may know her (Grania) was really upset over it. I don't know about a harp workshop in Scotland; that one must have passed me by. But I'd love to see her try something along the lines of this failed event again. I'm sure the credit crunch had a lot to do with it. AFAIK, Moya's Germany and Ireland tours are still going ahead. As for workshops, I'm now writing an SQL workshop if that's any use to anyone

I've had the Clannad 2 CD for some years now--I think it was a gift from Ahrod--and I've ony recently discovered what a delight some of the songs are.
Any recommendations? I tend to like the older, traditional Gaelic songs. The only other Clannad CD I have is Anam.

It contains beautiful traditional songs and the way they are performed is very special. The sound is not as professional as on some of the later albums but it is very authentic and listening to the music, I hear the great enthusiasm and talent of young musicians. It's my favourite Clannad-album and also the one that I consider as most emotional. Btw, the Moya-concert I went to in December seemed like almost sold-out. She and her band performed many Christmas songs and also other songs from the Clannad albums and from the solo albums. I sat in the front row (about three metres away from Moya), so I could see her and the band members well. They seemed to have a lot of fun playing although it was so cold in the church that they almost trembled in their stage outfits. Moya gave autographs after the concert and talked to the fans. It was a fantastic evening!
