The group that gave both Enya and Moya their start!
Official site: www.clannad.ie/
I have 2-3 Clannad CDs. My favorite Clannad songs are The Poison Glen, Harry's Game, I Will Find You, Teir Abhaile, and Ri Na Cruinne.

I've been slow to get into this group. I like to consider myself a purist with all this, and as I've mentioned elsewhere, my examination of Clannad is limited. 'Harry's Game' is a great tune, and I've modified it out of fun and retitled it "Theme from Astro's Game', but that just to horse around.
From my scant researches about Clannad I have come across a quote from Nick Ryan that I would like to share with everyone. This is probably old news to most of you, but it is like gold to someone like myself that is doing his best to understand the careers of these good folks and that involves their efforts elsewhere. Just some trivia concerning one of the songs from 'Fuaim'...
'Lish Young Buy-A-Broom'
"I mentioned the possibility of using this song a long time ago to the group. Due to the fact that it was very difficult to track down Andy Irvine, from whom I first heard the song, it was difficult to get all the verses. So, the first verses are from memory and the rest given to us by Chris Fitzgerald over the telephone from the Quays pub in Galway." - Nick Ryan
"Nick' instead of "Nicky" being as I found it at the site for Tara Records.

I bought my first Clannad cassette around .. 87 maybe .. while looking for some Silly Wizard cassettes. I picked up the Wizard's Live in America cassette and then looked around the Celtic shelf to see what else they had. I found Dulaman and thought I'd give it a try. I lived with that cassette in my car for quite a few months. A year or so later, I found out that the O'Bhraonain's had this kid sister, who sang too. I like Clannad's early traditional music, and I like the later traditional-jazz-newage fusion music. The only album I'm not fond of is Sirius. When I bought it, I thought I was listening to an entirely different group. Favorites would be Dulaman, Fuiam, Anam, Landmarks, MaCalla. In a Lifetime sends chills down my back in a very nice way. ;D

Thanks to a much treasured friend, I now have several Clannad albums: Fuiam, Legend, Magical Ring, and Macalla.
I am very fond of "I Will Find You." In fact, I do enjoy most of their music - I don't have Sirius though.

Clannad is one of my favourite bands. I have got "Clannad", "Clannad2", "Dúlamán", "Crann úll", "Fuaim", "Magical ring", "Clannad in concert", "Macalla", "Sirius", "Anam", "The angel and the soldier boy", "Legend", "Banba", "Lore", "Landmarks" and "Live in concert". My very favourite of these is "Clannad" and "Banba" is my favourite "new" album.
"Sirius" was the first album I listened to and at first I was a bit shocked because I had expected something different than rock music. Fortunately, I had also borrowed "Macalla" and "Banba" which helped me to find access to the music more easily. I like their "old" album as well as their "new ones". Clannad doesn't seem to be a band that can stick to the same style forever and this is good. By trying new things, Clannad created very interesting combinations of different kinds of music and some of the songs sound very unique even after all the years.

I have several of Clannad's albums. Like Kerry, I will find you is one of my favorites. I had heard of them and later found out that they were related to Enya.

Something incredible happened to me a couple weeks ago - I saw Clannad live here in Finland. Like Moya said, it took them over 30 years to get here It was like a dream come true. I met all the four members after concert and had a brief chat with Moya - gave her a big hug too. I found Clannad after I got to know Enya's music. Since I became a fan of their music, my collection has grown quite a lot. I bought a T-shirt and a book from the concert which I got signed. I have also 15 vinyl records and 16 CDs, singles included. I prefer newer work but there are old gems I like a lot

Hi Etukka, is that Noel's history of Clannad book? Can you give a review of it? It's very expensive on the Clannad website, and I'm not sure I want to order it until I know more about what's in it. Are the photos really new photos, or just many that we've seen before? Is it a good history of the band, with new information, or the same information you can find anywhere?
Thanks, TC

Clannad are one of the few groups where I can go out, buy an album, and find that I either like all the tracks or only find one duff track or so. I saw them live in Nottingham back in March, it was an awesome concert! I've got most of Clannad's CDs (including their very first one on vinyl) and it's interesting to see how they have progressed over the years, both technically and also the music itself and how it's changed. Some folk may be aware that my absolute all-time favourite is Croí Crogá, from Lore

Thanks, TC Hi TC, If you mean Moments In A Lifetime, then yes - that's the one. The book has 96 pages and a lot of photos - many of them were new to me. It was interesting to read about ancestry of the Duggan family, but I think it doesn't offer much new information of the band and it's history. Basicly I would recommend reading Moya's autobiograpy instead. But if you like watching photos then it's your thing. I admit 25€ is quite expensive but as a book enthusiastic I couldn't pass it myself.

I've got Moya's biography, so if Noel's book doesn't expand upon the history of the band more than that, I won't rush to buy it. I'm glad you were able to get it and enjoy having it. Like Roma's book, it could go out of print and become quite a collectible. And congrats on seeing Clannad and meeting Moya in Finland. I've seen Moya in performance in the U.S., and I hope one day Clannad will tour here as well.
