Congratulations on that event, Ardens. I hope I can see Moya one day, too.

Of course, I was lead to Clannad by Enya. Its interesting to see how their music have developed along the years... I think that are two Clannads... The first one until Magical Ring and another from it. Fuaim is my favourite folk / traditional album (not only because of Enya, but the musical selection), and Landmarks my favourite Celtic / Pop. I also like to much the almost instrumental Atlantic Realm, a very different focus for the band. Unfortunetely I have not seen the series (but I'm still curious). But my favourite Clannad track always is "Down By the Salley Gardens". Yeats poetry sounds fine on Moya's voice.

While I do think Clannad's work sounds very good, it's just not the kind of music that "wows" me - I've very glad Enya left that sound to follow her own muse. Wouldn't it be fun to hear Enya record some Clannad tracks in her own style? ;D I've always felt "Theme from Harry's Game" or even "Herne" from the Robin of Sherwood series could sound great in "Enya-style" ... Love, Phantas

Clannad is going do some concerts in Dublin next week and PΓ³l seems to be back! And there might be a new album this year! ;D Here is a recent performance: www.rte.ie/player/#v=1089617. It starts at about 25:00.

I went to a Clannad-concert last Thursday and it was great. They played especially songs from the older albums and some from the "Legend"-album. Apart from Clannad, there were also two other musicians on stage. The drummer turned out to be a talented singer as well and he performed "In a lifetime" with Moya.

I'm a little nervous about the new album they're supposed to be working on now. Clannad has had so many new album rumors over the last few years that I wonder if they'll actually get something out of the studio. It's been 15 years since Landmark. What will people expect from a new Clannad recording -- new music, or new versions of older songs which, from what I've read, seems to form the bulk of their current concert playlist?

I'd personally prefer new music, with maybe an odd one song being a newer, different version of an old classic. I think, because the members have had their own personal careers, they'll all bring in some new songs, or new song ideas. I'm sure they have put songs aside cuz they didn't feel it would fit their own musical projects at the time, and perhaps pick up on those as being possible Clannad material. If it would be only new versions of old classics....well, I suppose I should get my hands on the album but I wouldn't be as thrilled about it.

I like the old versions of the old songs so I don't necessarily need new versions of them. Just like Phantas, I hope that they have all brought in their ideas and composed something new.
The the way they played the old songs at the concert didn't differ a lot from the way they played them 30 years ago. There was some variation of course but it didn't sound radically modern or anything like that. That makes me believe that they have not changed their style a lot. My guess for their next album would be a combination of traditional songs and new songs played in a Clannadish style. Maybe they even go back to a more acoustic style that they can easily perform live on stage without the help of many additional musicians.

That is a pity, Moe. But I'm sure that going to Greenland and Iceland will be wonderful, too. You'll certainly come back with many great photos.
