I wanted to see what everyone here thought of the new video for Trains and Winter Rains. It got mixed reviews at Unity, so I am anxious to see what everyone here thinks.

I won't vote today - I just saw the video for the first time about an hour ago, and I really want to see it again. Digest it, sort of. Preliminary thought: I was happy to see other human beings there, in an attempt at narrative - and no hugging

When I first saw the video I didn't really like it But now that I have watched it and listened to the lyrics, I like it more. It's not my favorite video but it's nice. I fits with some of the lyrics.

I've probably watched it more than I have than the Amarantine video. In a few days, I'll probably have watched it more than the IITR video. It's not perfect but it's the most exciting video she's done in years. Okay.. so she doesn't do one every year. Well, it's the best video she's done since the wonderful Only Time video. The furor over r the black gloves is giving me laughing fits. You'd think Enya had crossed some lurid line in her video. Good gracious....

Yeah, those black gloves - what on earth is the matter with black gloves? I love black gloves, have several pairs of them. Needless to say, wearing them does not make me look like Enya

They're forgetting (or did they ever know?) that Enya wore long black gloves in the Val Doonican interview in 1988. Wearing that white jacket and skirt outfit, and black gloves.
Gloves three times? It's ANCIENT TRADITION!!
A smart looking black outfit, black dress gloves. She looked stylish, she looked competent and smart. Are some people scared of that aspect of the Former Celtic Faery Princess--that she can look (and act) like the independent businesswoman that she is? Why at the age of 47 is she supposed to look like a fragile little thing wrapped up in a velvet robe?
She's acting and dressing her age. If she tumbled back into her Shepherd Moons outfit, she'd look ludicrous.

I think the gloves are there to keep her from leaving fingerprints. She's obviously not cold because she has no jacket on. What else could it mean??
Ok I didn't vote yet. I don't know. I really didn't like the video at first. Actually I like the video a lot, but I felt it isn't right for this song. I've come to realize in the last several hours since that it could be my own fault. I had this idea of what the video was going to be. I pictured lonlier looking people for starters. They looked more bored than lonely. I pictured a less modern train station - but still one that is relevant to this day. I don't know. I must think on this some more. Must go to my thinking room.

I pictured a more industrial setting, instead of this very clean, slick new rail station. I pictured something grittier and more stressful.
My biggest quibble with the video now is that the shots of Enya are by and large the same -- head to waist. The camera doesn't often move out to take her in full figure, it doesn't move especially close to her. I would have like to have seen more variety in the distance of the shots, and maybe more variety in the angles.
Recalling what Enya said on the CBS Morning Show interview during ADWR, she doesn't like shooting on location, and won't shoot on location. If she limits her participation in the video to what can be done in the studio, then that limits what she's going to *do* in the video. There's no possibility of making Enya one of the characters moving through the rail station or waiting on the platform.
The video won't replace Only Time or Caribbean Blue or Anywhere is, but it's a (IMO) heck of a good video, and a radical change in style for her.

Yeah, like the Halifax Rail Terminal, real grit there. ;D I agree about the Enya shots - they are very "limiting" in pose. More variety would have been nice, but we takes what we gets.

There are aspects that I like about the video and there are some that I don't like. Showing a station with people waiting there and showing Enya sitting in the train was a good idea, it fits the song. The colourful snowflakes look fine, too, although raindrops might have fit the song better. I also like the modern style. In contrast to that, I don't like the parts in which Enya performs in the box. In my opinion they don't fit the music well and they rather remind me of a party inside a virtual news-studio than of the things she sings about. The video is not boring but considering this very inspiring song something more interesting would have been possible. I'm not excited about her clothing (and the gloves) she wears in this video. They neither fit the video perfectly nor are they as beautiful as the dresses she wore for promotion shots. But I know that some people would disagree with me concerning this point and a few others.

I like the pioneering style for Enya and applaud her desire to evolve.
I do not like her outfit....it's too day-to-day wear for a video.

This video totally took me by surprise.
I like the use of color, and black and white: very artistic. And the setting is very beautiful. To bad Enya didnβt had many interaction with the setting. Their was only the small segment in the beginning where Enya is sitting on the train. From there on forward, she only appears in a separate setting, like TC Mentioned. It would have been nice to see Enya singing on the train, but overall, itβs a very beautiful video.
In contrast to that, I don't like the parts in which Enya performs in the box. In my opinion they don't fit the music well and they rather remind me of a party inside a virtual news-studio than of the things she sings about. I think those parts resemble the city light that is going by.

Yes, I think the colorful reflections of light behind and around Enya are the lights of a cityscape. Whatever people think about this video, it's No. 5 at AOL.com. The attention can't be anything but good. I take the rating to mean that it's reaching people who would bypass her music or even her other music videos. Enya dominates the Grammy New Age category. I wonder if she's trying to move out of that and toward the more challenging pop category. When you have four New Age Grammys, maybe you wonder if you can be successful in another category? <my cat is biting me.. she's holding down my arm and biting me on the back of the hand.. .... >

Well, bite back!
That the video is no. 5 is a very good sign indeed - this song may well bring new fans, perhaps younger ones (lord, I feel old today).
The pop category would be a lot harder for her, competing against the likes of Madonna, etc

I like how Enya's style can progress and change a little here and there, but we never have to worry about her becoming a sell out. She can appeal to the younger and/or newer crowd without severely altering her image. That is difficult to find these days.
