I can't bite back, Kerry. She has lawyers. And STAFF! I just wonder if Enya is trying to move beyond New Age, even though the pop category would be very challenging for her. Drifting was put into the Pop Instrumental category. That surprised me. That was her first Pop Music nomination, wasn't it? What if she did break out of New Age and went into pop, received a Grammy nomination but didn't win. Maybe Enya would consider a pop music nomination a victory in itself? The pop category is huge and strong compared to the New Age category. There are other great New Age artists, but when Enya releases an album, there's nothing else in New Age that can touch what she does. OWB, that's well put. Her style is changing but I never feel that she's selling out to become more popular, more commercial. The T&WR video is very contemporary (there's that word again, but I don't know a better one to use), but it's still classy. We only have to worry if Enya starts getting her stage and video costumes from the people who do Madonna.....

Yes, Drifting was indeed her first pop nomination. Maybe that gave her the impetus to explore that category further?
No, she's not selling out - it would take more than this video to suggest anything that drastic - but she is perhaps reaching out.

I like it, but I think it doesn't capture the song to its full potential. The song is more powerful than the video for me.

I wanted more...I guess I am greedy...
I thought they could have used more "On My Way Home" settings or videos setting a bit more creative...good, but could have been a real winner...

I didn't like the video as much as I could have done. First the bad things: The shots in the box with colours does not do anything to connect the song to the video - it's just some shots of Enya singing. The people in the video - I like the fact that they are there but couldn't they hire some actors that actually know how to put on a face? (i.e. lonely, sad, mourning, happy, energetic....you catch my drift). The song is about taking a chance, even though it's scary - the ppl in the video look more like the regular commuters to me LOL! I didn't like the coloured drops - same reason as Enya in the box, it doesn't connect to the song and seems only to have been put in for stylistic reasons. The good: - real ppl in Enya video!! - Train station, good find always good to have a connection to the song. - Enya on train (WOOHOO!) looking the part! - motion of the video (apart from the box scenes) is perfect for the song - It's great to have an Enya video again!!! Now, overall it isn't that bad, but in terms of videos Enya has a lot to learn if she wants to move into a more contemporary or pop category. Nevertheless, I think she's brave enough to try things even if they don't work. I still wonder when Enya realises that videos can be added to actual albums releases (i.e. enhanced albums) ? Hasn't anyone noticed how the focus over the past three albums has changed in her videos, from past to present/ future ? In her older videos she used a lot of stuff that linked to old stories, paintings and the like, while nowadays she seems to be using more contemporary ideas for videos. And, although her CGI videos aren't all great, at least it doesn't look as if the CGI is CGI, as some other videos out there. (IITR is an exception, but it only has Enya walking in it and it has a certain minimalistic quality which I really like) One thing has been constant up to the T&WR video - nature has always been a feature in her videos. Love, Phantas

Yes, exactly! I thought exactly the same thing. The actors really didn't do it for me. Perhaps they should have held auditions a bit longer The good: - real ppl in Enya video!! - Train station, good find always good to have a connection to the song. - Enya on train (WOOHOO!) looking the part! - motion of the video (apart from the box scenes) is perfect for the song - It's great to have an Enya video again!!! Also agreed. She's on her way with a more modern pop style/look with this song and video. I'm OK with her not quite getting there 100% though. I prefer her as Enya...not Enya the pop star.

T&WR: the video was good in that a tale was told and Enya was not alone hugging herself. But it was not a video that would ever reach the "top video" lists up here.

It wouldn't be on'heavy rotation' with any video channels down here, either.....
Just my opinion, for what it's not worth, I'd much liked it better if she was actually seen on the train, as opposed to the station platform......

I kind of wish that this video would have been pushed out there a little more because when the next album comes around (assuming it is also pop-ish sounding) people might accept this new sound/look a little quicker. Big, if you keep saying negative things towards yourself, I will be forced to modify your posts

OWB, I just find it strange, from an Eithne/Enya perspective, that, although she wants everything to be perfect in her music, she seems to accept a soemtimes rather mediocre result in her videos.
It's not that Enya cannot be Enya anymore because she steps up to the plate in terms of her music video production, especially as she now has the ability and ample chance to produce high quality contemporary pop videos - she has earned her place in Warner's musical hierarchy by being able to sell millions of albums and as such does not feel the pressure to produce as she might have felt during the early years - I can imagine the pressure on producing a video being far greater than today.
In any case, Enya videos hardly get any airtime but I have gotten used to that fact and THAT is exactly the reason why I do not understand why Enya can or will not produce decent high quality videos, and why Warner hasn't opted to her the possiblity of adding videos to her albums.
Folks who don't own computes won't mind not having an enhanced cd, but those who do and who DO like to see Enya's videos can have a chance to "own" such a video on their own pc's.
I don't see how setting yourself up in such a contemporary, modern state of mind will undo something of the Enya flavour. Hence, my quabbles with Aigle and the videos.

Love, Phantas Whoever signed off on the final product was apparently seeing something different than the rest of us. I like the entire video minus the "acting." It would take to long to dissect the problems I had with the acting...but if you really set aside Everything and look at them, it's really not that great. I've seen better acting in a toilet paper commercial. I don't really know what to say about Aigle and their video releases overall...I would like to see them be available for purchase. Having said all that...it doesn't really bother me too much having it the way it is. This is just how they roll!

I thought it was good, but it is very different from her previous videos. I see three distinct eras of her videos: Watermark-TMOT (Montages, abstract, Enya-centric), ADWR-Amarantine (Nature, Real time, more concrete, Enya-Centric) and finally AWC (Concrete, non Enya centric). Even though I think it's great that there is a new video, I would love to see her revisit the montage theme found in CB or OF.

Here's my theory, for what it's worth: in the beginning, the videos were seen as crucial to "creating" Enya (TM) - and they certainly set the tone for the New Age fairy queen. But by now they seem to be viewed as less important, even unnecessary - just one video was made for AWC after all. I can see a day coming when no video will be made for a new album.

Kerry, I think we may see that day with the very next album. They don't seem to be important to her or to Warner as a way to promote an album anymore. I also think Enya doesn't like spending the time to make them anymore. She's nixed doing 'on location' videos, the Amarantine videos were largely done via special effects, and T&WR didn't require very much of her time. In comparison with the OT and WC videos, which required costume and scenery changes, T&WR is static -- Enya in one outfit in one location. It's a shame, because the T&WR video has over 20,000 views on the Enya channel on Youtube. Lots of people like this video. It's wonderfully different, it's exciting, the two student-commuters are great characters. I love the color and movement of the video, and the touch of Enya in the train car looking out is fantastic. But I do fear it might be the last one.

I think, even through the poor acting, that the point was made...commuters stuck in the hustle and bustle of the rush winter/holiday season. I really hope they don't totally give up on the making of videos, but it seems they are going that way. TC, perhaps your Maine Coons need to have a chat with Eithne??
