I'd love to find out what Enya perfomances really "rocked" with you. I myself quite liked the Magic of the Night performance in NYC simply because she looked so dang happy! ;D
I wish I had been there to see it.
What performances do you recall fondly?

I have two favorites. The Magic of the Night performance (which is still saved on the dvr lol) and the performance of Wild Child in, I think, Japan..?

The Magic of the Night performance is very high on my list, too. She did look happy to be there, heck she even looked warm, that was a cold night! The fact that she sang at a free, outdoor venue for a holiday event also makes it a very special performance. OWB--the performance with the gigantic piano, right? I like it for the humor fact of the world's biggest piano, the fog effect and the musician and chorus all swaying in the same direction. Another performance I like is her first appearance on The Kenny Show. You have to watch the whole performance because at the end, after she finishes, she struggles a bit to get the ear microphone off; it tangles in her hair I think. One of the musicians gets up to help her. Just goes to show, things happen! Of course, it's also followed by Pat Kenny's interview, which is so relaxed and charming.

Indeed that is the performance with the worlds biggest piano lol. It's funny you mentioned the back up musicians all swaying in the same direction...I didn't get seasick while watching that performance. I haven't seen the other performance you are talking about...sounds like a good one! Oh - I wanted to add the performance of Only If on the Rosie show. She seemed very happy there as well, and the interview after the show was quite nice.

Thanks, TC! It's great to know we can watch these again - well, after I wait 45 minutes for the streaming to take hold. Dial up, sigh...............

You're welcome. What I wish is that RTE's archives went back to that PTSWS interview she did with Kenny.. the one where he asked her about boyfriends and she, as I understand it, looked like she wanted to drop down a hole... or maybe drop HIM down a hole!

Magic of the night is also one of my favorites. It's hard to pick just one.

I really like the truly 'live' performances even in cases where Enya's voice seems nervous and thin. I don't see the point of a lip-synched performance TBH.
I remember being at an arts event in Donegal and Deirdre Brennan was there and someone in our company asked her to sing and reluctantly she agreed to sing a popular Gaelic song 'TΓ‘ mΓ© i mo shuΓ'. As I listened to her sing her voice was sweet and light but practicably inaudible, and I often wondered of Enya's voice would sound similarly faint without the correct microphone?

She could have simply been nervous, Sky--I'd hate to be the odd child out of the famous Singing Brennans.
I've not seen enough of the live performances to judge.

I think Enya must have an acceptable stage voice. Nicky wouldn't have put her in Clannad if not. Moya, I think, is also a 'light' singer, but she expresses herself well on stage. Or perhaps, projects well on stage, is a better way of saying it.

I would love to hear Enya live and not nervous. I want to hear the voice.

I would love to hear Enya live and not nervous. I want to hear the voice. I've always felt that if she just went out there and gave a few truly live performances, she would become less nervous over time. Isn't it true that before her first performance, even though it was lip synched, that Nicky had to sort of "push" her out onto the stage? She progressively became less nervous over time. She has such a beautiful speaking voice...so many of us could listen to her talk all day long. To see her get out there and not give up after one nervous performance would be such a treat.

I saw her performance on Regis and Kelly. It was live and she was nervous at first but her voice got stronger as the song went on. She performed Amarantine and I thought it was really a good performance.
