I'm sorry, I'm trying my hardest but I can't see the connection... I see the connection with a lot of Enya songs but I can't see the connection with this one... Aestas, I didn't 'hear' it at first either... but after so many listens it just suddenly dawned on me! I didn't even specifically listened to hear it, if you put them side to side they aren't at all similar...but in tempo TFOTA mimics CP except that it's a LOT slower.

I'm sorry, I'm trying my hardest but I can't see the connection... I see the connection with a lot of Enya songs but I can't see the connection with this one... I get what you mean. I think some of the Loxian songs are interestingly sonically but I do not have a strong emotional connection to them. They do evoke some imagery though as do all Enya songs. 'The Forge of the Angels' brings to mind a giant and elongated spacecraft moving through the vast expanse of space but that is all there is for me. It might be because of the way the song goes - there doesn't seem to be a real resolution to the song and so the spacecraft just continues on its way... to Aldebaran. I think it probably ends its journey in 'The Loxian Gates'. 'The Forge of the Angels' is still an atmospheric track as is 'Less Than A Pearl' and is good for setting the mood for space travel. DSI might be my favourite album for now but I do find that 'The Forge of the Angels' and Sancta Maria are just the songs to get through to 'Echoes In Rain' and 'Astra Et Luna' respectively.

DSI has to be my least-played album. I will happily play "Pale Grass Blue" when I do an Enya rotation, and occasionally "I Could Never Say Goodbye" although the vagueness of the lyrics still irritates me, but I generally don't listen to the rest of the album.

I like the latest Enya album title Dark Sky Island, the concept is interesting and there are a few songs from this album that I listen to quite often. However, it is not one of the best Enya albums; A Day Without Rain and Watermark are better albums for example. My 3 most played songs from Dark Sky Island are Echoes In Rain, The Humming, and So I Could Find My Way ๐ถ๐ I wish I had heard of this album or Enya back when it was released in 2015 - it would have been something relatively new and pleasant to listen to through the peak of mostly rubbish mainstream music as well as losing great musicians in the following year. Dark Sky Island reached 4th place in the Official Album Charts though, which is rather good to know! ๐ Here are some thoughts on each song (Deluxe edition with the last few tracks) : - The Humming - I rather like the prophetic message in the song, and using the humming concept of a low sound present at the beginning of the universe is a clever idea. Another cool Enya humming song in addition to Boadicea
- So I Could Find My Way - A beautiful song, very reflective, sad, peaceful. The only bit that seems slightly ironic to me is 'only time keeps us apart' - otherwise the lyrics are very touching
- Even In The Shadows - This one seems most contemporary, at first I wasn't drawn to the lyrics, but I now appreciate how they express those honest thoughts, nice paced beat and key
- The Forge of The Angels - It is okay, a bit long, interesting key changes and seems to set the scene if listening to the full album. However, I think Gaelic could have been nicer for the lyrics
- Echoes In Rain - I enjoy the energy of this song, eager but relaxed, someone who appreciates nature and familiar surroundings on their way home. I find the 'alleluia' bit as catchy as 'sail away'! I sing along to this song the most. The piano bridge is especially brilliant, and it took a little while for me to closely transcribe it! (Here)
- I Could Never Say Goodbye - Another reflective, gentle, sad song, about one realising how much they miss their family now that they are far away from each other
- Dark Sky Island - Wonderful gentle melody; a nice story and happens to be in the middle of the deluxe track list, like an island in the middle of the water
- Sancta Maria - It is maybe repetitive lyrically, though Mother Mary would enjoy this, and I find this nice to randomly listen to. I hear musical influences from Ireland, Enya's keyboard mastery, and choral music
- Astra et Luna - I think it is represents someone viewing the stars and moon in the clear dark sky, taking in the natural beauty. Nice to hear the keyboard strings in this song too, and the vocals at the beginning
- The Loxian Gates - Quite energetic, as if the person has reached an unexpected but joyful destination on their journey. Another one that seems better when listening to the full album
- Diamonds On The Water - This song does get my attention by how the chords changes sound, and Enya's singing here too, this song has grown on me
- Solace - It is a nice calm tune, a bit sad, I ought to listen to it more often. Lyrically it seems like it was told to Enya rather than her message to someone else, as well as representing someone alone on an island
- Pale Grass Blue - I keep thinking it is called Pale Blue Grass! I find the main melody and the phrase 'sun is high above and winds are still enough' a bit repetitive in the song, nice little concept but I rarely revisit this song
- Remember Your Smile - This is a simple but reassuring song, not sure if it is intentional but the key of C major (the 'home' key) is rather fitting to signify the end of the journey/album.

I too took a while to get used to the new songs. Re-release of Caribbean Blue was just fine with me. Even in the Shadows is a good instance of the fabulous way Enya creates a chorus of notes that separates each stanza. Dark Sky Island does this also. Her Capella Auriga is a change up in notes that pleasantly ends the prior stanza and sets us up for the next one. She does this also in The Humming. "And all the lights, will be, will be . ."
The other golden quality with Enya is that she's the Queen of Lilting Perfection. Not only are her lilts melodious but her pitch at every note is dead solid perfect. These provid,e for me, little treasures you wait for in many of her tracks.

(From the 'Suggest some ideas for a new Enya album!' thread, but it might fit slightly better here ๐
) Thanks for the screenshots, Candace66 . That is rather sad that a lot of the Unity forum content was not properly archived/lost. True, and maybe she does get a bit annoyed about constantly being asked about Enya, although Enya does join in her achievements (like the photos of the honorary doctorate in May, although 15 years earlier Enya got 2 of those, including the DLitt which is a higher/rarer award than PhD.) I can't really tell, but Moya could be slightly envious of the attention Enya's music gets, especially as she has also accomplished a lot and has been around longer. The 2011 notice is a bit odd when Enya said she returned to the studio in 2012. Maybe it was that Nicky and Roma had returned in 2011 and prepared things, while Enya was still on holiday. To be fair, Enya must have been busy with her involvement in the family-related events at the time, such as this christening, when she and an Australian brother-in-law Andrew (possibly also Olive's husband) became the godparents of Brรญdรญn's younger daughter, Enya's youngest niece Matilda. ๐ My general feeling is that Nicky is always refurbishing the studio; I think Nicky suffers from a common psychological disorder, highly prevalent amongst musicians and producers, called GAS; His rare but frank discussions detail his addiction quite clearly. www.musicradar.com/news/7-stages-of-gear-acquisition-syndromeHaha, maybe that is true ๐๏ธ๐๏ธโ๏ธ I don't think I had heard of Gear Acquisition Syndrome before; it seems similar to hoarding but with high-end recording studio equipment instead.

I previously found this song a bit unsettling, but in the last few days, I have listened to it more than ever (I find it sounds better and more comforting when ill, with a fever ๐
)
From this I have a slightly different interpretation of the setting for Diamonds On The Water ๐๐ง๐ก
Rather than being on a walk while describing the 'diamonds on the water', it is more like when one is feeling unwell, feverish; the heart is beating too fast and you can hear it when lying down. The relevant line in the song: This half-dreaming state would also involve being reminded of nice memories (such as the sparkling sunlight over the sea in summertime) ๐๐ญ Although I'm not a big fan of the temperate summer season, the sounds of summer (seaside, travelling to somewhere new, or after a long time) is rather nice ๐โ๏ธ
In the song's placing as the last one on the non-deluxe version of the album, I think it could sort of represent the person who journeyed to the dark sky island once they are back at home, exhausted and weak, but their mind is racing. People who are with them at home sound lively, but inside may not be as fulfilled as the one who has completed the journey. Despite being physically inactive, this individual is happy in their mind, and able to remember the beautiful imagery and happy memories ๐๐๐๐ญ
