I've worked up an English adaptation for WSTHH, which I admit was a challenge as the song doesn't really follow the traditional verse-chorus format...I think I've captured the sense of longing and yearning the song conveys in the original Loxian, but I'd like to hear members' thoughts. The English version works to the melody, i.e the English version can be sung in time with the melody...Hope you like it Water Shows the Hidden Heart(adapted from the book ‘Water Shows the Hidden Heart’ by Roma Ryan and from the album 'Amarantine'). Journey of journeys The heart remembers Love neverending Love unrequited Beyond this dreaming This moonless darkness Must lie some heaven Somewhere a love-shaped eternity Love breathes…I hear your last words I dream our last kiss I keep this secret Within my heart Time cannot free me This lost love haunts me I hear your voice say “Whom you love is within your heart”Do you remember And yearn for this same love? As I remember Each precious moment? Will you remember This perfect dream we shared? Or do hearts broken Stay so forever? Beyond these questions Beyond this solitude Must lie a journey’s end… Love bleeds…Journey of journeys The heart remembers Love neverending Love unrequited Beyond this dreaming This moonless darkness Must lie some heaven Somewhere a love-shaped eternity Love leaves…I sing you my passion I sing you my love But you will not hear me You spurned every touch Must I now leave This dream to fade away? Journey of journeys The heart remembers Love neverending Love unrequited Beyond this dreaming This moonless darkness Must lie some heaven Somewhere a love-shaped eternity Love grieves…

Sky, I like this! The words are beautiful. I'm not sure how I would even have started this project, but you have, and finished wonderfully, as well. When I get my first cup of coffee, I'll be back to read the lyric which the song plays. Again, if you could record yourself playing and singing this, it would be great. Well done!

Returning with first cup. It fits the melody. Considering the non-standard format of the song and the syncopation, this isn't an easy song to do lyrics for in the first place. When you consider that Roma's theme of the song and book was 'the man searching for the one he loves', you've done an excellent job of putting words to the melody and exploring the heart of that journey. A second well done! Semi-quoting Enya on the Loxian lyric for WSTHH: "We found English was a burden on the melody."

Thank you so much TC...your commendation means a lot!!
Note: in the line "Somewhere a love-shaped eternity" "somewhere" is stretched over 4 syllables.
I thought of adapting the song into Gaelic, but that wasn't going to reach the widest audience. TRS would work beautifully in Gaelic though....

Draoicht would enjoy it! ;D Thanks for the hint on the use of "somewhere." I was drawing out "eternity". I think we've all figured out that The River Sings was the Gaelic song on the album; WSTHH was the Latin song. I'll put my theory forth again: Amarantine became a project for Roma to showcase the Loxian language and myth she developed, to promote the book she wrote. I've no problem with it; they are a Trio. But this lyric shows that WSTHH could have been in English and, as far as I can tell, would have worked.

Wow, to say I am impressed is an understatement. Your lyrics even match the syllable pattern of the Loxian lyrics. I've never been fond of this song because I had no idea what was going on within it, despite the beauty of the music, and can honestly say that I appreciate it now.
I don't even want to think of the amount of work this must have taken!
Excellent job, Sky. I am truly impressed!

Excellent job, Sky. I am truly impressed! Riene, thank you so much for the response... I also tried to hear those points in the song where Enya's voice was particularly emotive and tried to match the lyric in that way so that it would be meaningful....but I admit it was tricky and time-consuming!

Geesh, the first thing around MH that genuinely merits a bowing emoticon. Riene, thanks for bringing that in. Sky... even beyond the melody, this is a very beautiful poem, and the best I've ever seen from you. We may have Enya's next lyricist right here at MH -- especially if Roma hands Enya another lyric like Amarantine!

The lyric is, after all, an adaptation of her own words from the WSTHH book, so I cannot assume all of the credit. My work in this was more like that of someone piecing together a jigsaw from a Book of Many Pieces (you see what I did there? lol).... So I have to admit this is more 'adaptation' than 'creation'...

It's been a long time since I visited WSTHH and Roma's work on that. I'll do that tonight, when I have more time.

Let me add my, WOW, Sky. That is simply impressive. If not Enya's next lyricist, how about a consulting job?

Sky's lyric caused me to revisit Roma's lyric, which is an impressive poem itself. We're lucky to be able to approach the melody now with two outstanding lyrics which explore the theme of a journey in search of love.

I know that Enya and SaDingDing and many other artists say that if the emotion of the song is conveyed properly that an artificial language doesn't prevent the listener connecting with the song, but for me, I like a tangible, understandable lyric.
I would like to see what Roma had written in English for this originally.

The Loxian conveys an otherworldly mystery that an English lyric cannot. Perhaps that was what they were striving for and couldn't obtain by using English.
I've always found WSTHH to be a very emotional song, but I know other people, such as Riene, have been put off by the Loxian. Like you, a more tangible lyric speaks to them better than a created language.
I admire what Roma and Enya have done with Loxian on Amarantine. It's effective in those three songs; however I'd rather not see it return on the next studio album, especially if it returns at the expense of Gaelic.

Emotional yes--but how does one know the topic? Is she singing about a lost lover or a dead houseplant or the endless rain?
When Josh Groban sings in Italian, I can run it through a translator--between that and the few words I know, I have an idea what's going on. I can do the same with Gerald de Palmas when he sings in French, and Eithne Brennan when she sings in Gaelic. For Latin songs, I ask Kerry.
Loxian...not so much. It's aggravating.
