What ideas do you have about the sort of music, album cover, title or themes that would appear in the next Enya album? In the recent 'Shepherd Moons 30th Anniversary Watch Party' video, Nicky Ryan mentioned that the recording studio has had a renovation and that the trio look forward to creating some new music- they might even have already started! I predict a release of new Enya music will be sometime next year (2022) at the earliest. The gap between albums seems to be getting a bit longer now, understandably. Between the release dates of And Winter Came and Dark Sky Island, there are 2566 days (7 years 10 days) - the gap between Dark Sky Island and a new album would surpass this on the 29th of November 2022. Edit 2023: and hoping for that day in 2024! The titles Enya/The Celts and Watermark mainly established Enya as a new artist making her mark. There are space/astronomical themes every so often in the titles (Shepherd Moons, Paint the Sky with Stars, Dark Sky Island). The main album covers feature Enya and her name with an intriguing backdrop or costume. I think it is mentioned in this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWud0Y0kBp8 at 5:16, that the autumn scenery in Japan that Enya is standing alongside would make a great album cover! Of course, the album cover/title will be closely linked to themes and melodies of the music written. Enya music nearly always has nature themes, which is something I particularly admire. ๐ฑ * I have some ideas, e.g. the title is 'Solar Winds', inspired by the early piano piece by Eithne ('An Ghaoth รn Ghrian', or 'The Solar Wind', which I'd love to hear a re-recording of). The album cover features either a lot of autumn leaves surrounding Enya standing in the middle, or the Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis and Enya looking up at them. Themes include new beginnings, hope, moving on, observations of the natural world, overall, lots of nice poetry from Roma Ryan. Key signatures with mostly be major (hopefully another Eb major single like Only Time/Only If/Anywhere Is), yet minor ones will be a bit more uplifting than melancholy. It will be a very soothing album, one to reassure the listener that, even after the varying difficulties faced by everyone during the pandemic, things will improve.

An all-Gaelic album with genuine Celtic/Irish instrumentation would be great!

An all-Gaelic album with genuine Celtic/Irish instrumentation would be great! Suvi That sounds a more Clannad thing; more Eitne than Enya. Or they could go full out Gaeltronica ! youtu.be/IgSQ_OK2vfY

Or, some real strings (not too much pizzicato LOL!) added into the mix as well... Suvi

I somehow think the next album will focus more on a feeling of family and intimacy, with the two years currently behind us. Also, the death of Eithne's father might slip into one or more of her songs this time around. Lots of reflection, me thinks.... I actually kinda expect a singular Gaelic track to appear reflecting on the death of her father, the loss of intimacy between family members bcs of COVID / social distancing and a longing to be together. Might well be a throw back to the days of Watermark which had similar longing songs among them.
As for an album cover, I expect something muted - autumnal colours, Enya in a gorgeous dress, maybe at a gate location, i.e. near a iron gate, symbolizing the opening and closing of relationships, intimacy, but also the passing of years and how one wishes one could remain somewhere but need to move on. A reflection on an era ending, and another beginning. A goodbye to a loved one, a step into unknown territory. Hmm, the more I think on it the better it becomes: a gate with beige stone (sandstone?), a black iron gate, and Enya in a gorgeous dark green velvet dress seemingly standing on the threshold, is she moving in or out?
Perhaps, aptly, titled "Threshold(s)" ...
Perhaps there will finally be the much coveted duet between Moya and Enya? Would seem fitting with their father's passing and ofcourse it should be in Gaelic!
Other songs will feature on more relationship break ups (they've become somewhat of a staple by now in her repertoire), some Latin / Loxian maybe revolving around journeys, voyages, space and time, the heavens and Earth, and perhaps a song or two about the beauty of nature and love. Perhaps we'll get an instrumental again, infused by Eithne's personal emotions of the past years.
I somehow am seeing a lot of (dark) velvety green colours, offset with white and gold and maybe even some dark red.

We had hints from Roma that Oriel window is going to be revisited, a bit like what happened to Stars and Midnight blue. (And can someone explain to me why Amazon Music warns that the instrumental rates an Explicit warning)

Here is Roma's spiel from the watch party.
This short piece on Oriel window is written in a particular style as it is an excerpt taken from writings you will find in the futureโฆ The three speak on the word Oriel and why it happened
The first spoke of the Oriel Window where she could watch the moonlight lay itself down upon the waves, upon the sea, as if it were dancing for her alone.
The second spoke. He said: The soft-tempered mongrel I had as a child, I gave it that name. Oriel.
The third spoke of an over-kingdom called Airgialla, spoken in English as Oriel, with histories, poetry, song.
Hopefully, in the future we will all meet again and you will discover those other words writtenโฆ

Great to see others' responses, the ideas and those interesting links I also agree that more real string instruments (like the violin in To Go Beyond II) would be wonderful, and the threshold/doorstep idea is clever too. This green could be a good colour to feature on a new album cover. I also believe that colours like orange or purple may work very well for the next album, both can be considered quite spiritual colours that I suppose Enya herself would quite like too. Edit: maybe not green as it may get confused with the Lord of the Rings/May It Be picture disc that was released in 2021. I think a light blue might be a suitable choice too ๐ค I also hope that the Oriel Window idea could be revisited, especially as it bears similarities to The Solar Wind!

I am all for the #purple themed album cover... Perhaps along the Lavender Route, from Carpentras to Grasse... Lavender flowers represent purity, silence, devotion, serenity, grace, and calmness. Purple is the color of royalty and speaks of elegance, refinement, and luxury, too.

It looks like 'The Oriel Window' on Amazon Music with an explicit rating is a different track, not Enya's composition Oriel Window. I also hope that the idea is revisited, especially as it bears similarities to The Solar Wind! It was Stars and Midnight Blue from the Wild Child single that Amazon thinks is so shocking !

How about any previous songs/instrumentals that might be revisited in the next album?
It would probably be one that hasn't been released as a single. Oriel Window and/or An Ghaoth รn Ghrian are two instrumentals that have been mentioned before. An example of a song that might be good to revisit is Someone Said Goodbye - or perhaps the remix version will be officially released on an album. There might be another song similar to Evacuee or Pilgrim too.

I'd like some more of the landscape instrumentals. Up till Amarantine, the title track was always one of these. On DSI we didn't get one at all, so we need at least two on the next album.

True, it would be great to hear some instrumental/non-lyrical tracks in the next album. The last time Enya recorded a song in Gaelic for an album (apart from Silent Night/ Oรญche Chiรบn) also seems quite a long time ago, not since A Day Without Rain.
